Third Front will never happen: Lalu Prasad

Jan 18 2013, 9:17am CST | by

Kolkata, Jan 18 (IANS) Describing it as a group of "wannabe prime ministers", Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Friday dismissed the formation of the Third Front for the next general elections.

Kolkata, Jan 18 — Describing it as a group of "wannabe prime ministers", Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Friday dismissed the formation of the Third Front for the next general elections.

"Third Front is zero... it will never be formed. There are over a dozen leaders who all want to be prime ministers. The third front will not happen, it will never happen," he told media persons on the sidelines of a programme here.

"I have a lot of experience about the third front. It comes into existence during the elections only to disappear within a few days," said Lalu Prasad.

He said that next general elections will be a fight between just two forces - "the secular compartment and the communal compartment".

"The next elections will be between the communal compartment and the secular compartment. I cannot reveal what strategy my party will take for the polls. If I tell you now, all my strategies will be in the newspapers tomorrow," he said.

He was also all praise for Congress president Sonia Gandhi and batted for general secretary Rahul Gandhi as the one to lead the party in the next polls.

"But for the sacrifice of Soniaji, Manmohan Singh never would have become the prime minister. Singh never had thought that he would one day become the prime minister - that too twice in a row.

"Only the Congress would decide who will lead them. But then what is wrong with Rahul. He is good leader," added Lalu Prasad.
