Gadkari seeks apology from Sonia, PM on Shinde's remarks

Jan 21 2013, 9:19am CST | by

Lucknow, Jan 21 (IANS) Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Nitin Gadkari here Monday lashed out at union Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde for claiming that the Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS) and the BJP were training Hindu terrorists.

Lucknow, Jan 21 — Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Nitin Gadkari here Monday lashed out at union Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde for claiming that the Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS) and the BJP were training Hindu terrorists.

While seeking an unconditional apology from Congress president Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Gadkari accused the home minister of hurting the sentiments of millions of Hindus.

Speaking at a rally held to merge the Jankranti Party of former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Kalyan Singh into the BJP, Gadkari said Gandhi owed an explanation to the nation on why a minister in the union cabinet was being allowed to get away with such statements.

"When the union home minister makes such utterances, what should it be seen as?" asked Gadkari.

Shinde had referred to Hindu terrorism and saffron terrorism during the Congress conclave in Jaipur Sunday.

Kalyan Singh said the statement of Shinde deserved to be condemned. "Shinde is a sick man and should be sent for treatment for making such remarks," he said.

Speaking at the rally, former Madhya Pradesh chief minister Uma Bharti lashed out at Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi for calling "power a poison" at his party's meeting in Jaipur Sunday.

"Rahul Gandhi should come clean on his statement because I still remember former prime minister Atal Behari Vajpayee telling me that power was a means to help the downtrodden, the weak and the unheard," she said.
