New Delhi, Feb 3 — President Pranab Mukherjee Sunday gave his asset to the Criminal Law (Amendment) Ordinance, 2013, to effect changes in laws against sexual crimes.

The ordinance, based largely on Justice J.S. Verma's report, was okayed by the union cabinet Friday.

It proposes enhanced punishment, including death in rare instances, in cases of crimes against women, including sexual assault, acid attacks, voyeurism and trafficking.

Women's groups have planned a protest at Jantar Mantar Monday against the ordinance.

They feel it lacks teeth to fight sexual crimes against women and had urged the president not to sign it.
