Iran airs video from captured US drone

Tehran, Feb 7 (IANS) Iran's state-run Press TV channel Thursday aired "decoded video recordings" which it said were obtained from a US RQ-170 stealth aircraft downed and captured by Tehran in December 2011.

Tehran, Feb 7 — Iran's state-run Press TV channel Thursday aired "decoded video recordings" which it said were obtained from a US RQ-170 stealth aircraft downed and captured by Tehran in December 2011.

The recordings had been made by the drone's underbelly camera, Xinhua said.

The videos included views from the area surrounding the Kandahar base in Afghanistan as the drone was about to land.

In December 2011, Iranian media reported that the military downed the US RQ-170 in the eastern part of the country after finding it transgressing the border.

The state TV later showed footage of the drone.

In April 2012, aerospace commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Brigadier General Amir Ali Hajizadeh said experts of IRGC's aerospace division were recovering data from the drone.

MILAN (AP) — An Italian anti-death penalty group says the number of executions worldwide increased last year despite a global trend toward capital punishment abolition. The organization Hands off Cain, based in Rome, said Friday that at least 4,106 people were executed in 2013, up from 3,967 in 2012, due to increases in Iran and Iraq. China remains the world's top executioner, with more than 3,000 executions carried out ...

The Strangest Disaster on the Planet Right Now

Jul 17 2014 9:05am CDT | Source: Politics - The Huffington Post

Who even knows what to call it? The Iraq War or the Iraq-Syrian War would be far too orderly for what's happening, so it remains a no-name conflict that couldn't be deadlier or more destabilizing -- and it's in the process of internationalizing in unsettling ways. Think of it as the strangest disaster on the planet right now. After all, when was the last time that the U.S. and Russia ended up on ...
