Iran airs video from captured US drone

Feb 7 2013, 12:48pm CST | by

Tehran, Feb 7 (IANS) Iran's state-run Press TV channel Thursday aired "decoded video recordings" which it said were obtained from a US RQ-170 stealth aircraft downed and captured by Tehran in December 2011.

Tehran, Feb 7 — Iran's state-run Press TV channel Thursday aired "decoded video recordings" which it said were obtained from a US RQ-170 stealth aircraft downed and captured by Tehran in December 2011.

The recordings had been made by the drone's underbelly camera, Xinhua said.

The videos included views from the area surrounding the Kandahar base in Afghanistan as the drone was about to land.

In December 2011, Iranian media reported that the military downed the US RQ-170 in the eastern part of the country after finding it transgressing the border.

The state TV later showed footage of the drone.

In April 2012, aerospace commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Brigadier General Amir Ali Hajizadeh said experts of IRGC's aerospace division were recovering data from the drone.
