Media Distort Catholic View on Evolution, Paint Pope Francis as Revolutionary

Oct 29 2014 9:09am CDT | Source: Big Government

After Pope Francis referenced the Big Bang and biological evolution this past Monday, a flurry of media reports appeared, contrasting Francis’ views with those of his predecessors and the Catholic tradition. “Pope Francis made a significant rhetorical break with Catholic tradition Monday by declaring that the theories of evolution and the Big Bang are real,” gushed MSNBC. And elsewhere, MSNBC reported that “conservat ...

No Big Bang without God, Says Pope Francis

Oct 27 2014 10:30am CDT | Source: Big Government

The Big Bang “doesn’t contradict the intervention of a divine Creator, but demands it,” Pope Francis said Monday morning, because the beginning of the world “is not the work of chaos.” The Pope was addressing the plenary assembly of the Pontifical Academy of Sciences, gathered in the Vatican to discuss “Evolving Concepts of Nature.” God is not some sort of wizard, said Francis, but rather “the Creator who brought all things into being.” The origin of the world deriv ...

Media Continue to Pontificate on What Pope Francis 'Really' Thinks

Oct 21 2014 12:01pm CDT | Source: Big Government

Pope Francis “favors change on the disciplinary rules on access to sacraments for divorced people who remarried outside the Church,” declared an article in the Huffington Post Monday. The fact that Pope Francis has never said this does not seem to matter. It seems to be open season on Pope Francis, with any number of self-anointed experts boldly stepping forward to tell the world what the Pope really thinks about the issues. Onc ...

Pope 'At Risk of Assassination by ISIS'

Sep 17 2014 5:30am CDT | Source: Big Government

Pope Francis is at risk of assassination from ISIS, a top Iraqi diplomat has warned. Habeeb al Sadr, Iraqi ambassador to the Vatican, said that the terror group had issued “credible threats” to the kill the Pope, just days before he begins a visit to Albania. The Vatican has responded, however, by insisting that there is no threat to the Pope's safety, and he will not ride in a bullet-proof Popemobile used by his predecessor Benedict XVI. A Sadr admitted he had no sp ...

Pope Benedict XVI's Regensburg Lecture On Islam Gets A Second Look In The Wake Of Islamic State

Sep 11 2014 8:20am CDT | Source: Politics - The Huffington Post

(RNS) Eight years ago this Friday, Sept. 12, Pope Benedict XVI delivered a lecture at the University of Regensburg in Bavaria in which he seemed to diagnose Islam as a religion inherently flawed by fanaticism. It was an undiplomatic assertion, to say the least — especially coming a day after the 9/11 anniversary — and it sparked an enormous outcry among Muslims and came to be seen as one of a series of missteps that would plague Benedic ...
