Pope Benedict to resign

London, Feb 11 — Pope Benedict XVI is to resign at the end of February, BBC reported Monday.

The media report said resignations from the papacy are not unknown, but this is the first in the modern era.

Former Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger at 78 became Pope Benedict XVI in 2005 following John Paul II's death.

In a statement, the Pope said: "After having repeatedly examined my conscience before God, I have come to the certainty that my strengths, due to an advanced age, are no longer suited to an adequate exercise of the Petrine ministry....

"In today's world, subject to so many rapid changes and shaken by questions of deep relevance for the life of faith, in order to govern the bark of Saint Peter and proclaim the Gospel, both strength of mind and body are necessary, strength which in the last few months, has deteriorated in me to the extent that I have had to recognise my incapacity to adequately fulfil the ministry entrusted to me."

Pope Francis sticks it to creationists

Oct 30 2014 2:14pm CDT | Source: WND

(Salon) — In an exciting declaration, Pope Francis I statedthat God should not seen as a “magician with a magic wand,” while unveiling a statue of his predecessor Pope Benedict XVI at the Pontifical Academy of Sciences. After Pope Francis referenced the Big Bang and biological evolution this past Monday, a flurry of media reports appeared, contrasting Francis’ views with those of his predecessors and the Catholic tradition. “Pope Francis made a significant rhetorical break with Catholic tradition Monday by declaring that the theories of evolution and the Big Bang are real,” gushed MSNBC. And elsewhere, MSNBC reported that “conserv ...

No Big Bang without God, Says Pope Francis

Oct 27 2014 10:30am CDT | Source: Big Government

The Big Bang “doesn’t contradict the intervention of a divine Creator, but demands it,” Pope Francis said Monday morning, because the beginning of the world “is not the work of chaos.” The Pope was addressing the plenary assembly of the Pontifical Academy of Sciences, gathered in the Vatican to discuss “Evolving Concepts of Nature.” God is not some sort of wizard, said Francis, but rather “the Creator who brought all things i ...

Media Continue to Pontificate on What Pope Francis 'Really' Thinks

Oct 21 2014 12:01pm CDT | Source: Big Government

Pope Francis “favors change on the disciplinary rules on access to sacraments for divorced people who remarried outside the Church,” declared an article in the Huffington Post Monday. The fact that Pope Francis has never said this does not seem to matter. It seems to be open season on Pope Francis, with any number of self-anointed experts boldly stepping forward to tell the world what the Pope really thinks about the issues. Once the Pope was dubbed a progressive, people just ...
