Havana, Feb 22 (IANS/RIA Novosti) Cuba will buy aircraft worth $650 million from Russia, the Russian industry and trade minister said Friday.

"Overall, aircraft deliveries will be worth $650 million," Denis Manturov told journalists.

Russian company Ilyushin Finance and the Cuban Aviation Corporation signed an option agreement on the delivery of three Antonov An-158 passenger aircraft and a number of other agreements in the presence of Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev and Cuban leader Raul Castro following talks.

Earlier Cuba confirmed that it was interested in buying three Ilyushin Il-96-400 airliners capable of carrying 350 people from Ilyushin Finance.

A deal on the delivery of Il-96-400s was also signed in Havana.

Medvedev arrived in Cuba Thursday following a visit to Brazil.

How Do Liberal and Conservative Attitudes About Obedience to Authority Differ? The Surprising Result of My Study

Aug 21 2014 2:47pm CDT | Source: Politics - The Huffington Post

As far as I was concerned, bible-thumping social conservatives were like obedient robots. When Uncle Sam called them to arms, heels clicked and hands met temples. When the preacher demanded chastity, zippers ascended toward belt-buckles. When the boss told them to fire an employee, conservatives reached for a pink slip. Social conservatives asked no questions, even when the command was arbitrary or the cause indecent. The way ...

Aug 5 2014 12:24pm CDT | Source: Politics - The Huffington Post

WASHINGTON (AP) — Fernando Murillo was typical of the young Latin Americans deployed to Cuba by a U.S. agency to work undercover. He had little training in the dangers of clandestine operations — or how to evade one of the world's most sophisticated counter-intelligence services. Their assignment was to recruit young Cubans to anti-government activism, which they did under the guise of civic programs, including an HIV prevention workshop. Murillo was instructed to che ...

Putin in Havana, America at the Movies

Jul 15 2014 11:00am CDT | Source: Politics - The Huffington Post

Our narrative starts at the height of the Cold War. Cuba's revolutionary government established formal diplomatic relations with the Soviet Union on May 8, 1960. Washington, in turn, severed ties with Havana on January 3, 1961. By the time Vladimir Putin was a 10-year-old and Bar ...

Putin In Havana, Seeking an Ally or a Satellite?

Jul 12 2014 10:46am CDT | Source: Politics - The Huffington Post

Putin and Raul Castro together on Cuban television. (14ymedio) "These are the last sweets!" The cry could be the simple proclamation of a candy seller, but I heard it 23 years ago at my high school in the countryside and it was the first evidence I had of the collapse of the Soviet Union. The person shouting was Olga, a student who resold what the wives of the Russian technicians in Alamar gave her. She was the bridge between our Cuban money, worth less every day, and a series o ...
