Moscow, Feb 25 — Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a smoking ban bill into law, the Kremlin said Monday.

The law bans smoking in public places, including bars, restaurants, hotels, hospitals, stadiums and train stations, reported Xinhua.

It also imposes measures to reduce the demand for tobacco products and restrict trade in them. Advertising and sponsorship of tobacco is prohibited under the law.

The State Duma, or lower house of the parliament, approved the bill on Feb 12 and the Federation Council, the upper house, passed it Feb 20.

It will come into effect June 1.

Saudis drop idea of toppling Syrian regime

Sep 14 2014 7:36pm CDT | Source: WND

Syria’s Bashar al-Assad WASHINGTON – The Saudis are telling Russia they no longer seek to topple the Syrian regime of Bashar al-Assad, but insist they should continue arming and training their surrogates in the Free Syrian Army as opposition to ISIS – even though FSA commanders have signed a non-aggression pact with ISIS. Foreign Minister Saud al-Faisal reportedly gave the news to Russian President Vladimir Putin, a staunch defender of the Assad regime. However, Middle East sources regar ...

PYONGYANG, North Korea (AP) — North Korea's Supreme Court on Sunday convicted a 24-year-old American man of entering the country illegally to commit espionage and sentenced him to six years of hard labor. At a trial that lasted about 90 minutes, the court said Matthew Miller, of Bakersfield, California, tore up his tourist visa at Pyongyang's airport upon arrival on April 10 and admitted to having the ...

Obama Ditches Presidency to Become Commentator-in-Chief

Sep 14 2014 3:09pm CDT | Source: Big Government

On Sunday, The New York Times revealed that President Obama seems to be feeling criticism from those who believe his foreign policy has fallen to shambles. “He’s definitely feeling it,” one guest said to the Times. The paper reported, “It was clear to guests how aware Mr. Obama was of the critics who have charged him with demonstrating a lack of leadership. He brought up the criticism more than once with an edge of resentment in his voice.” And yet the same Times piece depicte ...

Obama's Last Chance to Control His Credibility

Sep 11 2014 7:52pm CDT | Source: Politics - The Huffington Post

President Barack Obama has a precious opportunity to carve out a legacy for himself and carry out a coup against the reputation of weakness, repudiation and retreat that has dogged and haunted him. The Islamic State (IS) had invited the U.S. president to a war, which has opened a window for Barack Obama to shape his own fate rather than leaving his historical political legacy in the hands of others. If he shows boldness and acts decisively from a positio ...

Why they hate you Americans

Sep 11 2014 6:36pm CDT | Source: WND

“Why do they hate us?” It’s a question Americans often ask me, a non-American. This question is renewed with each anniversary of the fateful September morning that saw evil rock the cradle of liberty. It is a perfectly legitimate question, yet one that yields vastly different answers. An Arab will answer it differently than a Frenchman, and a socialist differently than an atheist. But in all of their answers, divergent as they may appear, there is glue. Of course, many foreign ...

The Donald's solution

Sep 11 2014 6:35pm CDT | Source: WND

On the day after Barack Obama’s dismal speech concerning ISIS, many Americans are desperately in search for a solution to the “O” problem – the Obama problem. Surely we can do better. By now it is clear to all who will see that Barack Obama is unsuited to be commander in chief of the United States, or to be in any position of influence that requires native intelligence and at least some common sense. Taking responsibility is just not Obama’s strong suit – he much prefers blaming others for all ...

Obama Is Epictetus

Sep 11 2014 5:17pm CDT | Source: Politics - The Huffington Post

The world is out of control; or is it? Barack Obama understands something most of us do not. Those of us who watched his speech last night, and who grew up in the half-century where America seemed to direct the world's affairs, are used to the following equation: a problem appears in the world; the American president takes action; if he acts correctly, the problem is solved. Leave aside that America's power was never that absolute, that our alliances and achievements were a ...

Iraq's Army Has 250,000 Troops. Europe Has Eurofighter Typhoons. U.S. Soldiers Have Done Enough Against ISIS.

Sep 11 2014 3:41am CDT | Source: Politics - The Huffington Post

"We still seek no wider war" is a line Americans have already heard before; with tragic consequences. We've already fought ISIS when it was named "Al-Qaeda in Iraq" and U.S. troops, and their families, have made enough sacrifices in the name of our national security. President Obama's latest speech defending airstrikes and further military involvement against ISIS, as well as recent economic sanctions against Russia amounts ...

Media fret over dangerous world they helped create

Sep 10 2014 12:28pm CDT | Source: WND

(Accuracy in Media) — How did the Islamic State go from being a jayvee team to an imminent threat to America in just a short time? The headline in last Friday’s Washington Times said it all: “Islamic State using leaked Snowden info to evade U.S. intelligence.” Rowan Scarborough points the finger at former NSA contractor Edward Snowden, now living in Russia under the protection of Vladimir Putin’s secret police. Scarborough says Snowden’s “top-secret disclosures” ...
