Tehran, Feb 25 — The best film Oscar for the CIA thriller "Argo" has riled Iran, which says the award has unveiled the "bare politicization in Hollywood".

"In the era that politicization in Hollywood was very strong, and every awards and festivals in Hollywood had paid much attention to the anti-Iranian movie 'Argo', the 85th Academy Awards ceremony, unveiled the bare politicization in Hollywood," said mehrnews.com.

US First Lady Michelle Obama introduced the nominations and the winner via a video conference from White House. The team of "Argo" - co-producers Grant Heslov, Ben Affleck and George Clooney - collected the trophy at the function in Los Angeles Sunday night.

"Argo", set in the 1970s, talks about CIA 'exfiltration' specialist Tony Mendez (Affleck), who concocts a risky plan to free six Americans from Iran.

The Iranian news agency cited movie critics as saying that "Lincoln" was the best film of the year to win the Oscar.

"The Academy Awards ceremony to present the Oscar for the best picture 'Argo' by Ben Affleck revealed that Hollywood insiders are sacrificing quality and artistic cinema to political slogans and distortions," it said.

It noted that Hollywood has been "an instrument for the US politicians to use it for their political purposes, not based on reality, but one-sided and distorted, to present to the world".

"Interestingly, in the current Academy Awards ceremony, presence of Michelle Obama was even surprising for the audience," it added.

This showed the "bare Hollywood scandals and politicization of the 85th Academy Awards ceremony".

"Argo" was among nine films vying in the category. The others were "Amour", "Beasts of the Southern Wild", "Django Unchained", "Les Miserables", "Life of Pi", "Lincoln", "Silver Linings Playbook" and "Zero Dark Thirty".

'Unhashtagable?'

Aug 19 2014 3:14pm CDT | Source: Politics - The Huffington Post

Hashtag activism draws on the logic that outrage or heightened audience reaction caused by iconic images can sway public opinion and eventually effect changes in policy, an argument that in its modern context has been documented since at least the Vietnam War era. With the advent of immediate and pervasive circulation through social media, the growing influence of images and short-form collective communication as persuasive media in policy decisions and social impact is undeniable. But if ...

Fox News 'Doctor' Thinks Michelle Obama's Too Fat

Aug 12 2014 12:54pm CDT | Source: Politics - The Huffington Post

We can always count on Fox News's resident medical expert, Dr. Keith Ablow, to provide sound and sensitive judgments about today's hot-button health issues. Hahahahahahahahaha sorry what we meant was the exact opposite of that. Take Tuesday, for instance, when Ablow tackled a topic nobody was discussing: Michelle Obama's weight as it pertains to her healthy eating campaigns. "She needs to drop a few," Ablow, who is not a nutrition ...

Student Loan and Mortgage Loan Debt: A Public Health Crisis?

Aug 12 2014 10:25am CDT | Source: Politics - The Huffington Post

Recent research about student loans and mortgages raises the question of whether having too much debt can make you sick. A recent Gallup survey of more than 11,000 college graduates finds that graduates with a substantial amount (i.e., more than $50,000) of student loan debt are worse off emotionally and physically than other college graduates. These survey results are particularly troubling because the results suggest that it is the debt itself - not the burden of repay ...

The real world war on women

Aug 8 2014 6:52pm CDT | Source: WND

In April 2014, the Islamist group Boko Haram (which means “Western education is a sin”) kidnapped over 300 Nigerian teenage girls. The girls were reportedly being auctioned off for $12 each to become wives, or worse. So when Michelle Obama launched her public #BringBackOurGirls campaign, I was hopeful that this might possibly bring awareness to the Islamic jihad against women. In spite of her husband’s support of all-things-Islam, it se ...
