Colombo, Feb 26 — A group of 75 Sri Lankans have been returned by the Indian government from a pilgrimage in south India due to security worries, Xinuua reported Tuesday.

The group who were on a pilgrimage to Velankanni in Tamil Nadu were advised by police to return due to rising anti-Sri Lankan sentiment, the Daily Mirror and Sunday Times said.

Last week, a gang attacked the SriLankan Airlines office in Chennai. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalitha axed the 20th Asian Athletics Championship as it would include a team from Sri Lanka.

India is likely to support a US resolution at the UNHRC calling on the Sri Lankan government to brush up its human rights record and improve reconciliation.
