Strategic balance of forces being disrupted: Putin

Feb 27 2013, 3:10pm CST | by

Moscow, Feb 28 (IANS/RIA Novosti) Russian President Vladimir Putin has said systematic attempts are being made to undermine the existing strategic balance of forces.

Moscow, Feb 28 (IANS/RIA Novosti) Russian President Vladimir Putin has said systematic attempts are being made to undermine the existing strategic balance of forces.

Speaking Wednesday at a meeting with senior military staff at the Russian defense ministry, Putin said: "Systematic attempts are being made from the outside to disrupt the strategic balance in this or that manner.

"In fact, the second stage of the US global missile defense system is being launched, and the possibilities for further NATO eastward expansion are being explored."

"The danger of the militarisation of the Arctic also persists," he added.

Putin said those challenges affect Russia's national interests and determine the priorities of its foreign policy.

Moscow has consistently opposed NATO's US-led missile defense programme for Europe, claiming it undermines Russia's nuclear deterrent. NATO maintains the programme is aimed at emerging nuclear weapon states such as Iran and North Korea.

You're All Idiots, So Vote

Nov 4 2014 8:37am CST | Source: Politics - The Huffington Post

The midterms this election cycle have seemed more contentious and looney than usual. The warnings from pundits and campaign ads of the world ending if we, as voters, don't make the right decision on Tuesday. America, it would appear, is on the verge of imminent, if not certain, annihilation. Ebola a ...

Another ObamaCare enrollment period is upon us, which means the accumulated trove of personal data stored in the glitchy HealthCareDotGov website will become an even more tempting target for hackers.  The test servers got hacked a while back, without anyone realizing it for almost two months... a development the Administration was not exactly eager to discuss with the public.  But at least they learned from the experienced and fixed all the sec ...
