Strategic balance of forces being disrupted: Putin

Feb 27 2013, 3:10pm CST | by

Moscow, Feb 28 (IANS/RIA Novosti) Russian President Vladimir Putin has said systematic attempts are being made to undermine the existing strategic balance of forces.

Moscow, Feb 28 (IANS/RIA Novosti) Russian President Vladimir Putin has said systematic attempts are being made to undermine the existing strategic balance of forces.

Speaking Wednesday at a meeting with senior military staff at the Russian defense ministry, Putin said: "Systematic attempts are being made from the outside to disrupt the strategic balance in this or that manner.

"In fact, the second stage of the US global missile defense system is being launched, and the possibilities for further NATO eastward expansion are being explored."

"The danger of the militarisation of the Arctic also persists," he added.

Putin said those challenges affect Russia's national interests and determine the priorities of its foreign policy.

Moscow has consistently opposed NATO's US-led missile defense programme for Europe, claiming it undermines Russia's nuclear deterrent. NATO maintains the programme is aimed at emerging nuclear weapon states such as Iran and North Korea.

Chechnya Bans President Barack Obama, European Union Leaders

Jul 29 2014 3:50pm CDT | Source: Big Government

Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov has banned President Obama from visiting the Russian Republic of Chechnya. The ban is a sort of sanction, as Kadyrov claims it is retribution for the wars in Libya, Syria, Iraq, and Ukraine. The Washington Post reported these sanctions and Kadyrov’s relationships with Hollywood celebrities, but they failed to mention his most prominent friend: Russian President Vladimir Putin. The West and Ukraine accused Putin of the rebellion in ...

Russian BUK Missile System v. American HAWK Missile System - Is There Any Possibility of Another Similar Flight MH-17 Shoot Down Occurrence?

Jul 28 2014 3:32pm CDT | Source: Politics - The Huffington Post

It is an understatement to say that the whole world was stunned to learn on Thursday, July 17, 2014 that a commercial/civilian aircraft had been shot out of the sky by a medium range surface-to-air missile. But it is true -- various respected media outlets have reported that a Russian-made BUK/SA-11 medium range surface-to-air missile system locked onto Malaysia Airline's Flight MH-17 flying at approximately ...

On his weekly Sunday HBO program “Last Week Tonight,” John Oliver challenged his viewers to unite behind the cause of urging the Russian government to rescue a satellite of which it had lost control that contains geckos as part of a study of sex of living organisms. “You might be saying, ‘Look John, why are you making such a big deal out of this? Aren’t there more important things going on in the world?’” he said. “Yes, obviously almost everything is more import ...

Russian President Vladimir Putin WASHINGTON – Moscow has threatened to end security arrangements it has with the United States and the European Union should they impose additional sanctions as a result of what they claims is Russian “complicity” in aiding the downing of Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 by pro-Russian fighters in eastern Ukraine. DEB RIECHMANN, Associated Press WASHINGTON (AP) — Stepping up pressure on Moscow, the U.S. on Sunday released satellite images it says show that rockets have been fired from Russia into neighboring eastern Ukraine and that heavy artillery for separatists has crossed the border. The images, which came from the U.S. Director of National Intelligence and could not be independently verified by The Associated Pres ...

Russian Authorities Tell LGBT Group It Should Hold Its Pride Parade In A Landfill

Jul 26 2014 8:12am CDT | Source: ThinkProgress

CREDIT: AP Russian authorities are suggested to organizers of an LGBT pride parade in St. Petersburg, Russia that they hold this year’s event in a landfill, representing just the latest in the country’s ongoing effort to humiliate the community. Since 2010, the government has denied the group, Ravnopraviye (Equality), permission to host rallies in public areas and has instead suggested alternative out-of-the-way sites in far off villages. This year, City Hall de ...

Muslim-Marxist Obama must be removed now!

Jul 25 2014 5:55pm CDT | Source: WND

President Barack Hussein Obama is literally destroying the world. If you thought that Presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush were bad, there is no comparison to this socialist/communist, racist, anti-Semitic, anti-Christian, anti-white commander in chief whom I frequently refer to sarcastically, but realistically, as the “Mullah in Chief.” A while back, I was excoriated by the left for my speech before the World War II Memorial as thousands of patriots protested Obama’s closing of the m ...

Ukraine: Why There Is Hope

Jul 25 2014 9:51am CDT | Source: Politics - The Huffington Post

The shooting down of Malaysian Flight 17 over Ukraine may actually open doors for peaceful resolution of the conflict there. As evidence mounts of their complicity in the disaster, Russia is now thrown on the defensive and any momentum they and their separatist Ukrainian allies had has been stalled, at least for now, as Russia twists and turns in the glare of global condemnations and threats of significantly more painful economic sanctions. This, and the revolting pict ...

Let's Tell the Truth About This International Madness

Jul 25 2014 8:04am CDT | Source: Politics - The Huffington Post

The horrible human costs and increasing danger the world is now facing in Gaza, Ukraine, and Iraq show the consequences of not telling the truth. And unfortunately, we seem to mostly have political leaders who are unwilling to admit the truth of what's happening, deal with root causes instead of exploiting symptoms, and then do everything possible to prevent the escalation of violence and further wars. Instead we have politicians who are mostly looking for opportunities to blame the ...

Would McCain or Romney Have Acted Differently From Obama Regarding Today's World Events? Absolutely Not.

Jul 24 2014 6:31am CDT | Source: Politics - The Huffington Post

To some conservatives, Benghazi is "worse than Watergate", the Affordable Care Act is akin to communism and slavery, and the president has a forged birth certificate. The VA crisis is Obama's responsibility, even though Dick Cheney still believes Iraq was "the right thing" and even freeing a U.S. Marine from the Taliban is considered a "dangerous precedent." To further the notion that Obam ...
