Moscow not security rival to Washington: US envoy

Jun 10 2013, 8:48pm CDT | by

Moscow, June 11 (IANS/RIA Novosti) The US administration does not regard Russia as a rival in security matters but views Moscow as a partner with whom it can jointly resolve global issues, the US ambassador to Russia said Monday.

Moscow, June 11 (IANS/RIA Novosti) The US administration does not regard Russia as a rival in security matters but views Moscow as a partner with whom it can jointly resolve global issues, the US ambassador to Russia said Monday.

"We do not consider Russia as a rival to the United States either in security or in the economy. President Obama favours relations that would benefit both countries rather than force a 'zero-sum game' on them, as during the Cold War," according to a Russian-language transcript of McFaul's speech at a seminar of the Moscow School of Political Studies.

Having "better relations with Russia" is in Washington's national interests, McFaul said. "We believe so, and are working towards this goal," he added.

McFaul cited nuclear arms control, and the situations in North Korea, Iran, and also Afghanistan, especially after the planned US troop withdrawal in 2014, as among the global issues that Moscow and Washington need to address together.

Jul 31 2014 7:45pm CDT | Source: Big Government

Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL), the Ranking Member on the Budget Committee, killed the Senate's $3.6 billion border funding bill on Thursday evening after Democrats could not get enough votes to waive his budget point of order.  After Sessions raised the point of order because the legislation violated the Budget Control Act, Sen. Barbara Mikulski (D-MD), the Appropriations Chair and author of the bill, moved to waive all points of border on the bill. But she could ...

Report: Jeff Sessions Takes Down GOP Border Bill by Lobbying House

Jul 31 2014 7:44pm CDT | Source: Big Government

House Republican leaders are frustrated that they had to pull their $659 million border bill on Thursday, after Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL) convinced enough Republicans to stand up for American workers and vote against a bill that did not explicitly prevent President Barack Obama from unilaterally granting work permits to millions of illegal immigrants. Rep. Steve Scalise (R-LA), who will become the new House Majority Whip on Friday, saw this v ...

Jul 31 2014 7:21pm CDT | Source: Politics - The Huffington Post

By Joan Biskupic WASHINGTON, July 31 (Reuters) - U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg has a message for liberals who have been saying the 81-year-old should step down while Democratic President Barack Obama is in office so he can appoint her successor: Who are you going to get who will be better than me? Senate Fails On Border Crisis Funding

Jul 31 2014 6:57pm CDT | Source: Politics - The Huffington Post

WASHINGTON -- Efforts by Congress to approve money for what most deem a crisis along the southern border were in shambles on Thursday evening, after the Senate failed to approve its funding bill and the House was forced to rework its plans to win more Republican votes. Smart, young businesswoman lights path for Millennials

Jul 31 2014 6:56pm CDT | Source: WND

Katie Kieffer One cannot talk with political commentator Katie Kieffer and be unimpressed. Perhaps the more important takeaway, though, is that it isn’t all lost for America when Millennials sound like this smart, young businesswoman who is clear-eyed about where the country is under Barack Obama. She is conceding nothing to the negative forces that would love nothing better than to re-fashion the U.S. into Belgium. In her ...

Once a community organizer, always …

Jul 31 2014 6:41pm CDT | Source: WND

Either the folks at Barack Obama’s political action committee Organizing for Action have a sense of humor or they have acknowledged that their hero is in the White House to serve the interests of a radical, Saul Alinksy-style transformation of America from the top down. I think we can rule out the sense of humor possibility. I got an email this week from Organizing for Action. I get a lot of them. They are clev ...
