Beijing, June 13 — Rescuers were searching for five children who were reported missing after a minibus plunged into a river in China's Fujian province a day ago, authorities said Thursday.

The seven-seat minibus carrying 10 people went into a 10-metre-deep river Wednesday afternoon near Zhangzhou city, reported Xinhua citing a government official.

Though five people managed to make it to safety, five children are still missing, the official said, adding that the torrential rain hit the mountainous township from Tuesday to Wednesday, causing the road to turn muddy and slippery, which might have partly caused the accident.

The U.S. Wants to Contain Russia But Cooperate With China

Sep 19 2014 12:22pm CDT | Source: Politics - The Huffington Post

BEIJING -- The Obama Administration's policies in the Ukraine crisis appear to have troubles in two aspects: the rebalance to the Asia-Pacific and the containment of Russia. First, national strength in the United States is falling short of its ambitions. While conducting the eastward shift of its strategic center of gravity, or rebalancing to the Asia-Pacific, it is difficult for the Pentagon to balance the legislativ ...

Sep 19 2014 11:10am CDT | Source: ThinkProgress

CREDIT: AP Photo/ Francisco Seco Every major independent analysis of aggressive climate action has found it has very low cost, virtually no impact on growth, and several valuable co-benefits. And one more thing — it avoids climate impacts so catastrophic their costs are almost incalculable, a staggering $1240 trillion, by one analysis. Two new studies further underscore these points, as Nobel prize-winning economist Paul K ...

Climate Change Hunger: World Leaders Must Act

Sep 19 2014 10:33am CDT | Source: Politics - The Huffington Post

Discussions on curbing greenhouse gas emissions always seem to proceed excruciatingly slowly, as climate change is forever being brushed aside as a far off concern for a distant future. They fail time and again because politicians of all stripes pay more attention to the short-term horizon of the next election than the world future generations will live in. Future generations - after all - cannot vote. That was, until now, the conventional wisdom. It is now be ...

America the Hammer

Sep 19 2014 9:51am CDT | Source: Politics - The Huffington Post

In his September 10 speech about the middle-eastern terrorists ISIL, President Obama gave the classic rationale for U.S. involvement: "America is better positioned today to seize the future than any other nation on Earth... Abroad, American leadership is the one constant in an uncertain world." What kind of leadership? Obama's assertion of U.S. leadership has two components. In the first, the president boasted that our ...
