Beijing, June 13 — Rescuers were searching for five children who were reported missing after a minibus plunged into a river in China's Fujian province a day ago, authorities said Thursday.

The seven-seat minibus carrying 10 people went into a 10-metre-deep river Wednesday afternoon near Zhangzhou city, reported Xinhua citing a government official.

Though five people managed to make it to safety, five children are still missing, the official said, adding that the torrential rain hit the mountainous township from Tuesday to Wednesday, causing the road to turn muddy and slippery, which might have partly caused the accident.

Hong Kong's Unique Opportunity to Forge a Middle Way

Oct 20 2014 3:12pm CDT | Source: Politics - The Huffington Post

As the leaders of the umbrella movement sit down to negotiate with Hong Kong authorities after weeks of street protests, the big question is whether the two sides can find a compromise that meets both Beijing's concerns about stable and efficient governance on the one hand, and citizens' concerns about genuine, instead of sham, democracy on the other. Under the current plan authored in Beijing, which has led to the protests, Hong Kong citizens c ...

A Weaker West Opens the Way for the Rest of the World -- Good and Bad

Oct 20 2014 11:41am CDT | Source: Politics - The Huffington Post

"So far, the 21st century has been a rotten one for the western model," according to a new book, The Fourth Revolution, by John Micklethwait and Adrian Wooldridge. This seems an extraordinary admission from two editors of the Economist, the flag-bearer of English liberalism, which has long insisted that the non-west could only achieve prosperity and stability through western prescriptions. It almost obscures the fact that the 20th century was blighted by the s ...
