Italian official held for 10-mn-euro graft

Rome, June 15 (IANS/AKI) A former senior official in the Italian government has been arrested on suspicion of embezzling 10 million euros of interior ministry funds, police said.

Francesco La Motta was the director of the interior ministry's Religious Buildings Foundation between 2003 and 2006. The foundation administers more than 700 Catholic churches and museums and books and works of art contained in them.

Prosecutors are probing La Motta for allegedly transferring into a Swiss bank account the 10 million euros earmarked for preservation of churches and cultural assets.

The Swiss bank account was later emptied, prosecutors said.

Former banker Klaus Beherend, cinema producer Eduardo Tartaglia and broker Rocco Zullino were also arrested Friday in connection with the probe, police said.

La Motta is also at the centre of a separate judicial probe in Naples into alleged money-laundering by the local mafia or Camorra. Judges have so far seized a billion euros of assets from the Polverino crime family.

Gene Simmons Wins Argument with HuffPo Host Over Speaking 'Goddamn English'

Aug 15 2014 12:20pm CDT | Source: Big Government

This week, KISS rocker Gene Simmons not only embraced assimilation and the importance of English for immigrants to succeed, he gave a textbook example of how to successfully--and forcefully--do so on hostile turf. He did so with no apologies--and plenty of compassion. In an entertaining interview on HuffPost Live, Simmons said he was "given all the advantages of native-born children" after coming to the country when he was eight years of ...

Should persecuted Christians defend themselves?

Aug 13 2014 7:08pm CDT | Source: WND

At this very moment, Christians around the world are being severely persecuted for their faith. They are being forced into exile, abducted, raped, tortured and slaughtered. Is it right for them to fight back? Is it right for them to take up arms to ward off or kill their attackers? There are strong arguments against Christians taking up the sword to defend themselves for the cause of the gospel. He ...
