Beijing, June 16 — A court in China has sentenced a man to life imprisonment for forging financial documents to get over 10 billion yuan (around $1.6 billion) from banks and companies.

Liu Jiyuan, 45, former president of an investment management company in Shanghai, was accused of swindling 10.13 billion yuan from several banks and enterprises between November 2008 to November 2010, Xinhua reported.

The court in Jinan in Shandong province said Liu forged seals of banks and companies, loan materials, certificates of deposit and telegraphic transfer as well as cheques.

Liu was also accused of pretending to be a bank staffer to illegally gather deposit from enterprises.

Over eight billion yuan has been retrieved after Liu's case was exposed.

Which US States Imprison More People Per Capita Than Russia Or China?

Oct 22 2014 4:27pm CDT | Source: Politics - The Huffington Post

Both Russia and China's prisons are frequent targets for bad press in the United States. But by one important measure, both countries are far less draconian than several states in America. Russia has 475 inmates per 100,000 residents as of 2013, according to data from the Sentencing Project. China has 121. Those numbers are much lower than states like Louisiana (893 per 100,000) Mississippi (717) and Alabama (650) based on 2012 st ...

Oct 22 2014 1:16pm CDT | Source: Big Government

Kenny G, the poodle-haired smooth jazz saxophonist, has seriously jeopardized his status as the most popular closing act no one in China has heard of by joining in democracy protests in Hong Kong. Up until today, Kenny G was almost certainly the most listened-to Western artiste in the whole of China. This is because, for well over a decade, his sultry easy-listening jazz anthem Closing Time has become the equivalent of ...

Five Compromises Obama Should Embrace to Boost the Economy

Oct 22 2014 12:43pm CDT | Source: Big Government

If Republicans win the Senate, President Obama risks another bruising recession if he doesn’t embrace compromise and abandon ineffective populist prescriptions. Slower growth in Europe and emerging markets like China and Brazil threaten U.S. exports and demand for American-made products. At home, stock market volatility threatens consumer confidence and sales of autos, new homes, and other big ticket items. Stimulus spen ...
