32 die in Iraq suicide bombing

Jun 18 2013, 7:12am CDT | by

Baghdad, June 18 (IANS) At least 32 people were killed and over 50 injured in twin suicide bomb attacks at a mosque in the Iraqi capital, an interior ministry official said.

Baghdad, June 18 — At least 32 people were killed and over 50 injured in twin suicide bomb attacks at a mosque in the Iraqi capital, an interior ministry official said.

The attacks occurred around midday at the al-Husseiniyah mosque in al-Qahira district, when two suicide bombers blew themselves up during prayers, Xinhua reported.

The official said the two attackers first shot dead the guards of the mosque with silenced weapons before entering the building and blowing up their explosive vests.

Ambulances, civilian and police vehicles evacuated the injured to various hospitals across the city.

BBC said Tuesday's attack comes a day after bombings killed at least 10 people in the cities of Taji and Fallujah near Baghdad.

Last month was the bloodiest in Iraq since June 2008, with 1,045 civilians and security officials killed.

Obama Is Right to Ignore Saber Rattlers on ISIS

Oct 1 2014 3:06pm CDT | Source: Politics - The Huffington Post

John McCain and some of the louder pro-war voices in Congress have been criticizing the president for ruling out putting American boots on the ground in the battle against ISIS. These people want to see Iraq War 2 and feel that the Bush Doctrine that the only way to resolve issues in the Middle East is by putting our troops in harm's way. President Obama has another way and it appears to be working, validating a key tenet of his foreign policy ...

The Age of American Impatience: Why It's a Dangerous Syndrome

Oct 1 2014 2:59pm CDT | Source: Politics - The Huffington Post

"Wrap Rage" is a new phenomenon. It has nothing to do with music, as in Rap music. It has nothing to do with "Road Rage" which is quite common on our byways and highways. "Wrap Rage" is product-related. It is the frustration people report feeling when they have to open shrink-wrapped packages. Yes, people actually report annoyance and anger with having to use their teeth or scissors o ...

Turkey Vows to Protect Suleyman Shah Tomb Against ISIS

Oct 1 2014 11:16am CDT | Source: Big Government

The Islamic State (ISIS/ISIL) is known to destroy tombs and sacred temples held dear to Christians and Muslims in Iraq and Syria because the buildings, they claim, are idolatrous. Their next victim might be the Suleyman Shah tomb in Aleppo, Syria, built in Turkish territory in 1921 under a treaty with France when the French ruled Syria. Suleyman Shah was the grandfather of Osman I, the founder of the Ottoman Empire. The Empire, also known as the Turkish Empire, was founded in 1299 ...

Oct 1 2014 6:24am CDT | Source: Big Government

The RAF has made it’s first attack on ISIS ground forces in Iraq, dropping a single laser guided bomb on a “heavy weapon position” and using an anti-tank missile to take out a pickup truck in support of Kurdish fighters in North-West Iraq yesterday. The “armed reconnaissance mission” which consisted of two of RAF Akrotiri’s six Tornado fighter-bombers, presumably with the support of an aerial refuelling tanker, was tasked to support Kurd ...

The Fix: President Obama is winning on a foreign policy issue — for a change

Oct 1 2014 6:00am CDT | Source: Post Politics: - The Washington Post

Get ready to pop the champagne, White House. For the first time since January, President Obama is polling a 50 percent approval rating on an issue: his handling of the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria.
