Smuggled reptiles seized in China

Beijing, June 18 — Border police in south China have seized a large number of snakes and tortoises in a cross-border smuggling case, officials said.

The reptiles, contained in 160 boxes in a truck, were confiscated in the coastal city of Fangchenggang in Guangxi Zhuang region, Xinhua reported.

The public security border defence forces said most of the animals were alive when they were found.

Police suspect that the reptiles were smuggled into China from neighbouring countries.

The animals were later handed over to forestry authorities.

In May, border police in the same city seized 89 boxes containing snakes and 24 boxes of tortoises.

Jul 29 2014 6:45pm CDT | Source: WND

Each year I am invited, along with many members of Congress, to speak at a gathering on the lawn of the U.S. Capitol facing the Mall and the Washington Monument. The Falun Gong are not related to any known world faith, and most Christian leaders would refer to them as a cult bec ...

How One Agency Could Threaten Obama’s Climate Goals

Jul 29 2014 1:14pm CDT | Source: ThinkProgress

Even as giant U.S. coal companies bemoan the Obama Administration’s plan to reduce carbon pollution from coal-fired power plants, a federal agency’s long history of protecting industry interests could hand coal companies a victory and threaten an otherwise impressive climate record. The coal industry has loudly and publicly decried the administration’s Clean Power Plan, saying it would “place the U.S. economy at serious risk,” w ...
