Smuggled reptiles seized in China

Beijing, June 18 — Border police in south China have seized a large number of snakes and tortoises in a cross-border smuggling case, officials said.

The reptiles, contained in 160 boxes in a truck, were confiscated in the coastal city of Fangchenggang in Guangxi Zhuang region, Xinhua reported.

The public security border defence forces said most of the animals were alive when they were found.

Police suspect that the reptiles were smuggled into China from neighbouring countries.

The animals were later handed over to forestry authorities.

In May, border police in the same city seized 89 boxes containing snakes and 24 boxes of tortoises.

China's giant toad looks like communist leader

Jul 23 2014 11:21pm CDT | Source: WND

Dutch Artist Florentijn Hofman Visits Shanghai
(New York Times) There was something familiar about the giant yellow inflatable toad, some Chinese noted online, shortly after it appeared in a Beijing park. Part of the recognition stemmed from its similarity to the big rubber duck created by the Dutch artist Florentijn Hofman, which attracted huge crowds in Hong Kong and Beijing last year and triggered knockoffs in several other Chinese cities. Par ...

Walsh Blames PTSD for Plagiarism

John Varvatos And Ringo Starr Press Conference
Sen. John Walsh (D-MT) said "his failure to attribute conclusions and verbatim passages lifted from other scholars' work in his thesis to earn a master's degree from the U.S. Army War College was an unintentional mistake caused in part by post-traumatic stress disorder," the AP reports. Said Walsh: "I don't want to blame my mistake on PTSD, but I do want to say it may have been a factor. My head was not in a place very conducive to a classro ...

A billion reasons to stop illegal immigration

Jul 23 2014 6:42pm CDT | Source: WND

China's Muslim's Observe Ramadan
President Obama has requested $3.7 billion dollars to deal with the influx of illegal immigrants crossing our borders, many of them minors. It is no secret that this administration has, in fact, put out the welcome mat by refusing to enforce many of our immigration laws and ignoring others. The president has all the authority he needs to send these people home immediately. The William Wilberforce Act, which Obama has used as an ...

Chalking Up Montana As A Democratic Loss

Jul 23 2014 6:31pm CDT | Source: Politics - The Huffington Post

China's Muslim's Observe Ramadan
I had intended to write a column today to take an overview of all the close races for Senate seats. Every so often, I like to take a look at what the chances are for both parties to make gains in November (or, this year, to see whether the Republicans are going to gain a majority, realistically). Instead, after seeing the recent news from the New York Times, what is now called for is kissing goodbye any chance ...

China's Muslim's Observe Ramadan
We are now entering the third week of the Gaza war. Israel’s IDF death toll is 25, and Gaza’s is over 500 (over 3,100 wounded). Hamas has rejected several offers for cease-fire and continues to fire rockets on Israel. One has to wonder why Hamas hasn’t built bomb shelters like Israel. The answer is simple: The bomb shelters are created by their own people whom Hamas sees simply as a valuable yet disposable commodity in its war against Israel. They protect their weapons with human lives ...

Did Walsh Mislead the NYT's on PTSD Treatment Issue?

Jul 23 2014 6:19pm CDT | Source: Big Government

China's Muslim's Observe Ramadan
An earlier New York Times item detailing a significant case of plagiarism by Senator John Walsh of Montana specifically claimed Walsh had not sought treatment for Post Traumatice Stress Disorder after his service in Iraq. The aide said Mr. Walsh, who served in Iraq from November 2004 to November 2005, “dealt with the experience of post-deployment,” but acknowledged he had not sought treatment. Now, the Seattle ...
