Smuggled reptiles seized in China

Beijing, June 18 — Border police in south China have seized a large number of snakes and tortoises in a cross-border smuggling case, officials said.

The reptiles, contained in 160 boxes in a truck, were confiscated in the coastal city of Fangchenggang in Guangxi Zhuang region, Xinhua reported.

The public security border defence forces said most of the animals were alive when they were found.

Police suspect that the reptiles were smuggled into China from neighbouring countries.

The animals were later handed over to forestry authorities.

In May, border police in the same city seized 89 boxes containing snakes and 24 boxes of tortoises.

Get Out! - The Only Sane Response to the Islamic State

Sep 14 2014 8:20pm CDT | Source: Politics - The Huffington Post

The Islamic State (ISIS) proves the law of unintended consequences. Congratulations America! We killed Christianity in the Middle East and unleashed a terror organization with far greater reach and power than Al Qaeda ever possessed. If insanity is defined as doing the same thing over and over again, and expecting different results, then our foreign policy needs to have been locked away in an institution a long, long time ago. The law of unintended consequences suggests t ...

When Putin falls into obscurity

Sep 14 2014 2:45pm CDT | Source: WND

Recently Vladimir Putin announced a defense program to upgrade the Russian Federation’s defense systems, a 10-year program. Promptly after that, three missiles were launched from a Russian Federation submarine. This was called a test. This was done to show that Russian Federation submarines can fire missiles. That’s nothing new! Technologically speaking, the Russian Federation cannot really menace anyone at this time. The Russian Federation lags behind ...

Jim Webb: The Democrat Hillary Clinton Should Fear Most

Sep 14 2014 2:30pm CDT | Source: Big Government

The Democrat Hillary Clinton should fear the most has no chance of winning the party's presidential nomination.  And that is why if former Virginia Sen. Jim Webb somehow, perhaps even on a whim, decides to enter the 2016 field, he would pose the biggest problem for Clinton, who returns to Iowa for the first time on Sunday since her 2008 debacle when she appears with her husband at Sen. Tom Harkin's final Steak Fry. Webb, who refused to run for reelection after his ...

Iran's Covert and Quiet Military Build Up and Operations

Sep 13 2014 5:30pm CDT | Source: Politics - The Huffington Post

The Islamic Republic has exercised a tactical shift with regards to its mass strategic signaling when it comes to its military and ballistic capabilities, development of nuclear technologies, covert operations, long-range missiles and ICBM capabilities. In the past, Iranian leaders and Iran's state media outlets did not hesitate in projecting their military power more publicly, boasting about their ballistic and defense accomplish ...

How George W. Bush Benefited From Affirmative Action

Sep 13 2014 8:53am CDT | Source: Politics - The Huffington Post

The current public debate and wave of articles about how colleges can do a better job of providing access to students from low-income families -- including my own article, "Making Top Colleges Less Aristocratic and More Meritocratic" (with Richard Kahlenberg) in Friday's New York Times -- reminds me that for over a century, most colleges have had an affirmative action policy for rich, well-connected white kids. It is called "legacy" admissions. Former President G ...

Solar Storms: What You Need to Ask Your Power Company

Sep 13 2014 5:48am CDT | Source: Politics - The Huffington Post

Earlier this week, two solar flares aimed in earth's direction erupted on the sun. What a spectacular picture from NASA has been making the rounds of the Internet; it's literally the muzzle flash of a stellar particle beam cannon looking right at us. Angling slightly above our planet's orbit, a gigantic blast of matter weighing many times our own earth called a coronal mass ejection or CME flies by in a cloud of charged particles. We ...
