Iran not to allow foreigners to decide for Syria: Minister

Jun 22 2013, 10:00pm CDT | by

Tehran, June 23 (IANS) Iranian Foreign Minister Ali-Akbar Salehi has said that his country will not allow any foreign nation to decide for the Syrian people, after a "Friends of Syria" meeting in Doha pledged to arm the Syrian rebels.

Tehran, June 23 — Iranian Foreign Minister Ali-Akbar Salehi has said that his country will not allow any foreign nation to decide for the Syrian people, after a "Friends of Syria" meeting in Doha pledged to arm the Syrian rebels.

"The Islamic republic will not allow, as it has proved, any foreign prescription to be imposed on the Syrians," Xinhua quoted Salehi as saying.

He said Iran was against arming Syrian opposition groups as such a move will "prolong the crisis, sabotage and bloodshed".

Iran and the West have accused each other of meddling in Syria's two-year-old conflict.

At a joint press conference with visiting Lebanese Foreign Minister Adnan Mansour, Salehi said both regional and non-regional states should help Syrians find a solution to the crisis themselves.

Earlier, the Friends of Syria meeting in Doha demanded Iran to stop its interference in Syria.

The meeting, attended by nations supporting the Syrian opposition, also urged Lebanon's Hezbollah Shiite movement to stop fighting alongside forces loyal to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

Analysis: U.S. Failures in Gaza Make Israel-Iran War More Likely

Jul 31 2014 8:24am CDT | Source: Big Government

Amidst the many foreign policy stumbles--and occasional successes--of the Obama administration, there have been few as embarrassing as the failure in the ongoing Gaza conflict. No agency has been spared. The State Department has looked worst of all, with John Kerry's failed ceasefire mission that alienated all relevant parties. The Pentagon provided weapons, but its intelligence assessments have been absurd. And the President, who to ...

State Department rejects real refugees

Jul 25 2014 5:51pm CDT | Source: WND

The smell of rank hypocrisy and naked cruelty fills the air at the U.S. State Department and the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad. President Obama and his Cabinet are scrambling to find billions in additional funding to accommodate the 60,000 illegal-alien minors who have crossed our southwest border since January. Those minors are being classified erroneously as “refugees” to make their entry into the country appear lawful. Meanwhile, 2,400 real r ...

Executions Rise Worldwide In 2013

Jul 18 2014 8:16am CDT | Source: Politics - The Huffington Post

MILAN (AP) — An Italian anti-death penalty group says the number of executions worldwide increased last year despite a global trend toward capital punishment abolition. The organization Hands off Cain, based in Rome, said Friday that at least 4,106 people were executed in 2013, up from 3,967 in 2012, due to increases in Iran and Iraq. China remains the world's top executioner, with more than 3,000 executions carried out last year, about equal to 2012. Still, the re ...

The Strangest Disaster on the Planet Right Now

Jul 17 2014 9:05am CDT | Source: Politics - The Huffington Post

Who even knows what to call it? The Iraq War or the Iraq-Syrian War would be far too orderly for what's happening, so it remains a no-name conflict that couldn't be deadlier or more destabilizing -- and it's in the process of internationalizing in unsettling ways. Think of it as the strangest disaster on the planet right now. After all, when was the last time that the U.S. and Russia ...
