Iran not to allow foreigners to decide for Syria: Minister

Jun 22 2013, 10:00pm CDT | by

Tehran, June 23 (IANS) Iranian Foreign Minister Ali-Akbar Salehi has said that his country will not allow any foreign nation to decide for the Syrian people, after a "Friends of Syria" meeting in Doha pledged to arm the Syrian rebels.

Tehran, June 23 — Iranian Foreign Minister Ali-Akbar Salehi has said that his country will not allow any foreign nation to decide for the Syrian people, after a "Friends of Syria" meeting in Doha pledged to arm the Syrian rebels.

"The Islamic republic will not allow, as it has proved, any foreign prescription to be imposed on the Syrians," Xinhua quoted Salehi as saying.

He said Iran was against arming Syrian opposition groups as such a move will "prolong the crisis, sabotage and bloodshed".

Iran and the West have accused each other of meddling in Syria's two-year-old conflict.

At a joint press conference with visiting Lebanese Foreign Minister Adnan Mansour, Salehi said both regional and non-regional states should help Syrians find a solution to the crisis themselves.

Earlier, the Friends of Syria meeting in Doha demanded Iran to stop its interference in Syria.

The meeting, attended by nations supporting the Syrian opposition, also urged Lebanon's Hezbollah Shiite movement to stop fighting alongside forces loyal to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

American Ties to Israel Remain Strong, Despite Obama's Efforts

Nov 3 2014 2:27pm CST | Source: Big Government

On Sunday, I had the opportunity to join guest host Danny Seaman on Israel's Voice of Israel, to discuss the most recent thorn in U.S.-Israel relations--namely, the "chickensh*t" comment by an unnamed Obama official. One point I tried to make, among others, was that broad support for Israel among the American people is as strong as ever. It will survive this administration (and may even be thriving as a form of opposition to Obama). However, the question remains how ...

Saudi Activist: Why I Removed the Veil

Oct 30 2014 10:44am CDT | Source: Big Government

This article originally appeared in The Daily Beast: No piece of cloth throughout history has sparked more controversy as the veil. Many Muslim women are forced to wear it daily. The hijab has a spectrum, of course, from its most radical embodiments, the niqab, which covers the entire face, to loose fitting headscarves. Saudi Arabia comes come second only to Iran in using the power of the stick (the Committee for the Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice or the religious police) ...

Washington Must Not Ignore Iran's Threat against Camp Liberty

Oct 30 2014 4:10am CDT | Source: Big Government

The Iranian regime has been conspicuously furthering its agendas in Iraq while a U.S.-led coalition is fast busy countering the mounting threat of the Islamic State, an extremist group that has occupied large swaths of Iraq and Syria in past months. Included among Tehran’s strategic goals in Iraq are the empowerment of its proxy Shiite militia forces and the further suppression of Iranian dissidents residing in Camp Liberty. Unless Washington takes the correct measures an ...
