How Israel Can Escape the Gaza Trap

Jul 29 2014 10:07am CDT | Source: Politics - The Huffington Post

FROM PROJECT SYNDICATE TEL AVIV -- Israel's "Operation Protective Edge" against Hamas in Gaza is the kind of asymmetrical warfare that has characterized nearly all Middle East conflicts in recent years. Victories in such wars are always elusive. Whatever the achievements of Israel's superior army and its anti-missile systems, and however appalling the devastation of Gaza, Hamas will survive, if only because Israel wants it to. The alternati ...

Israeli Peace Rally Cut Short by Hamas Rockets

Jul 27 2014 8:06am CDT | Source: Big Government

The Israeli government, which includes parties that favor negotiation with the Palestinians, has been united in the struggle against Hamas in Gaza. But the Israeli left still persists in its illusions--or delusions. Consider the following report from the Times of Israel about a peace rally in Tel Aviv's Rabin Square that had to end early: Several thousand left-wing activists gathered in Tel Aviv’s Rabin Square on Saturday evening, ca ...

When Rockets Fall in Israel

Jul 22 2014 8:19am CDT | Source: Politics - The Huffington Post

The statistics are rolling in: Thousands of rockets fired, thousands of homes destroyed, 65,000 reservists deployed, hundreds of Palestinian and tens of Israeli dead, miles of print, hours of commentary, two ceasefires. But for all our statistics, are we not missing one fundamental point? No one is suffering more at the hands of Hamas than the ordinary people of Gaza. I am usually quite reluctant to comment outside ...
