Washington, June 27 — US President Barack Obama announced Wednesday he was nominating General Marty Dempsey for another term as chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the nation's top military chief.

Oama said in a statement he would also nominate Admiral Sandy Winnefeld for another term as the vice chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Xinhua reported.

The president praised the two as "superb officers who have led our military and their families with great distinction, deep conviction, and absolute integrity over the past two years," and have "earned my trust and that of the American people."

Obama said he is confident "that our nation is safer and more secure today because of their visionary, dedicated, and tireless leadership," and urged the Senate to re-confirm their nomination as swiftly as possible.

Chris Christie Takes Part In Conference On Volunteering And Service
Democrats may talk about change but that seems dubious given that the names at the top of their Georgia ticket harken back to the politics of decades ago.  State legislator and grandson of the notoriously failed President Jimmy Carter, Jason Carter, is running for Governor and Michelle Nunn, daughter of former Senator Sam Nunn, who retired in 1997 is running for the U.S. Senate seat left vacant with the r ...

MasterCard and Stand Up To Cancer Launch "The Priceless Table" in Times Square
The New York Times urged President Barack Obama to give amnesty to millions of illegal immigrants already in the country and let the illegal immigrant children who are flooding across the border remain in America.  Not doing so--enforcing the country's laws instead--amounts to spitting on them, according to the Times, which wondered if Obama had the "courage" to grant amnesty to millions more illegal immigrants. "It would be good to see Mr. Ob ...

ATLANTA (AP) — Now that Georgia Republicans have settled on businessman David Perdue as their nominee for the state's open Senate seat, the real battle begins with a marquee match-up in the fall against Democrat Michelle Nunn that could help determine control of the chamber. The contest is one of the nation's most closely-watched in the 2014 elections, and the prospects of Democrats winning a Senate seat in the staunchly conservative state are tantalizing for Nunn and her party as th ...
