Kabul/New Delhi, Aug 3 (IANS) At least eight Afghan civilians were killed and 22 wounded Saturday when a suicide bomber blew up a car packed with explosives near the Indian consulate in Afghanistan's Jalalabad city, police said. The Indian officials are safe.

Kabul/New Delhi, Aug 3 — At least eight Afghan civilians were killed and 22 wounded Saturday when a suicide bomber blew up a car packed with explosives near the Indian consulate in Afghanistan's Jalalabad city, police said. The Indian officials are safe.

The deafening explosion took place at around 10 a.m. about 50 meters away from the consulate in the city, 120 km east of the Afghan capital Kabul, provincial police chief Sharifullah Amin told Xinhua.

The bomber tried to assault the consulate building but his explosive went off minutes before arriving at the compound in Jalalabad, capital of eastern Afghan province of Nangarhar.

No damages were inflicted on the consulate and no Indian staff was hurt in the blast, sources said.

"Explosion in front of India's Consulate in Jalalabad. MEA in touch with officials. All officials are safe," tweeted Syed Akbaruddin, official spokesperson, India's ministry of external affairs in New Delhi.

Afghan security forces quickly sealed off the blast site.

The blast sent a plume of grey smoke soaring into the sky, and damaged several houses and shops nearby.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

This is the third major attack in the past five years. In Oct 2009, a Taliban suicide bomber attacked the Indian embassy in Kabul, killing at least 17 people. None of the Indian officials were injured in the attack.

In July 2008 a suicide bomber rammed a car full of explosives into the gates of the Indian embassy, killing 58 people, including senior Indian

diplomat V. Venkateswara Rao and Brigadier Ravi Datt Mehta while injuring over 150 people.

Needed: More Faith in Collective Impact

Sep 22 2014 10:19am CDT | Source: Politics - The Huffington Post

In his televised speech about America's response to ISIS last week, President Obama laid out a new strategy, continuing the recent tradition of taking the nation to war without asking much of its citizens. As with our engagements in Afghanistan and Iraq, our military bears risk (with or without "boots on the ground") and the rest of us watch it on TV. We are asked to contribute little and sacrifice nothing. It was not always so. During World War II ...

Dem Senator: Obama's Plan To Train Syrian Opposition Would Cost $100,000 Per Rebel

Sep 17 2014 1:18pm CDT | Source: Big Government

On September 16 Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) blasted President Obama's request for $500 million to train 5,000 Syrian rebels, saying the breakdown on the money works out to "$100,000 per [rebel]" for one year. He said that even after all that money is spent the U.S. has no guarantee that the rebels will not side with ISIS for religious reasons, and fight Bashar al-Assad instead of the ISIS insurgency.  According to The Hill, Manchin said: "I ...

4,486 American Soldiers Have Died In Iraq. President Obama Is Continuing A Pointless And Deadly Quagmire.

Sep 17 2014 6:05am CDT | Source: Politics - The Huffington Post

I recently wrote a satirical article highlighting my view that if taxes and military service were required during every American military engagement, we'd never again wage wars with such ease and impulsiveness. Contrary to the erroneous and ridiculous interpretation of one website that claimed I believe "we're a nation of selfish sloths" (thanks for bothering to read my other artic ...

Obama Has Right Strategy on ISIS, But Harder Questions Coming

Sep 16 2014 12:11pm CDT | Source: Politics - The Huffington Post

President Obama's plan of partnering with our Arab allies on airstrikes while allowing Iraqi forces, Kurds and Syrian rebels to do the fighting on the ground is the right approach to dealing with ISIS. But those of us who have served in the military know the best-outlined plans can quickly be torn up by the realities of combat. The question facing the Obama administration is what happens next if things don't go according to plan? ISIS is undoubtedly a threat worthy o ...
