Bobby Jindal gets 50 percent approval in Republican poll

Aug 19 2013, 10:48pm CDT | by IANS

Washington, Aug 20 (IANS) Louisiana's Indian American governor Bobby Jindal, seen as a potential Republican presidential candidate in 2016, has an approval rating at 50 percent in his home state, according to an internal party poll.

Washington, Aug 20 — Louisiana's Indian American governor Bobby Jindal, seen as a potential Republican presidential candidate in 2016, has an approval rating at 50 percent in his home state, according to an internal party poll.

Jindal, who was re-elected governor in 2011 for a second four year term, is term-limited that is he cannot contest for the State's top job again.

The Republican survey, conducted last week also found President Barack Obama's approval rating as 37 percent in the state, according to the Politico, an influential Washington news site focused on politics.

The poll found that 55 percent Louisianans support Jindal's controversial decision not to expand Medicaid, a US government health programme for families and individuals with low income and resources, with 37 percent opposed.

Four-fifths of Republicans also favour his Medicaid position.

The poll also found that 62 percent of Louisianans oppose Obama's signature healthcare law, nicknamed Obamacare, that aims to increase the quality and affordability of health insurance in US, 53 percent strongly so. Only 33 percent favour the law.

OnMessage Inc., Jindal's main consulting firm, surveyed 800 voters from Aug 12 to 15 for the National Republican Senatorial Committee, Politico reported.

The results were weighted to reflect historic turnout trends. The margin of error is plus or minus 3.5 percentage points.

The Washington Post previously reported their finding that Democratic Senator Mary Landrieu leads Republican front-runner House member Bill Cassidy by 4 points, 45 percent to 41 percent. Cassidy was up among independents by 4 points, 41 percent to 37 percent, according to Politico.

Landrieu voted for the 2010 health care overhaul.

A small coalition of hard-left groups have called on GOP chairman Reince Priebus to "shun" several social conservative groups for their positions on homosexuality.  An expensive full-page ad appeared in Wednesday's Washington Post signed by the Southern Poverty Law Center, a group that raises $40+ million a year and has $250 million under management, and the $50 million-a-year Human Rights Campaign, along with People for the American ...

Louisiana 'Legislative Audit' of Common Core: Standards Drive Curriculum in Classrooms

Sep 23 2014 8:39am CDT | Source: Big Government

In an ironic twist, a report issued Monday by the nonpartisan Louisiana Legislative Auditor asserts that the Common Core standards are driving curriculum in the classroom, a statement that is in sharp contrast to the meme of supporters who have consistently argued that the Common Core is “just standards” and that curriculum can be decided at the local level. The audit, prepared by Daryl G. Purpera, CPA, CFE, and written from a decidedly pro-Common Core perspecti ...

Planned Parenthood's Very Bad Year Keeps Getting Worse

Sep 9 2014 1:37pm CDT | Source: Big Government

Poor Planned Parenthood. America's largest abortion provider is having a very bad year and thanks to a Republican proposal to make birth control available over the counter, it could be getting even worse. Despite the President himself siding with no safeguards on abortion to a degree that would surely have pleased Kermit Gosnell, many states have implemented laws making it tougher for abortionists to ply their trade. The result was ...

Savage: Feds arming for 'war on white people'

Aug 29 2014 12:53pm CDT | Source: WND

Michael Savage Looking back on the nightly violence on the streets of Ferguson, Missouri, Dr. Savage made a trenchant observation. For years now, he reminded his listeners, the Department of Homeland Security has “been militarizing police forces, getting ready for an insurrection within America. Civil disobedience occurred in Missouri this week, but it was black civil disobedience, so there was no DHS presence. “It’s very importan ...

Romney May Still Not Be the Republican Party Favorite

Aug 29 2014 11:06am CDT | Source: Politics - The Huffington Post

Headlines claimed that Americans want Romney back. But despite a recent poll touting his comeback, more evidence is needed to show that even Republicans want their losing nominee from 2012 back. Nearly a month ago, a poll showed that New Hampshire GOP voters gave Romney the nod in picking who they wanted to win in 2016. So what did Iowans think? Those who want Romney back crowed that a new USA Today/Suffolk poll of 206 Iowans found that 72 (35 percent) of them preferred the one-te ...

Obama Administration Punishes Oklahoma for Repealing Common Core Standards

Aug 28 2014 8:32pm CDT | Source: Big Government

The U.S. Department of Education (USED) has punished the state of Oklahoma for repealing the Common Core standards and reverting to its previous academic standards by rescinding the state’s waiver from No Child Left Behind (NCLB), making it the second state ever to lose its waiver from the law. As Caitlin Emma of Politico reports, Indiana, on the contrary, was granted a one-year extension of its waiver from NCLB because, though Gov. Mike Pence (R) declared he was the first governor ...

From Bob Marshall, The Lens, Brian Jacobs and Al Shaw, ProPublica: In just 80 years, some 2,000 square miles of its coastal landscape have turned to open water, wiping places off maps, bringing the Gulf of Mexico to the back door of New Orleans and posing a lethal threat to an energy and shipping corridor vital to the nation’s economy. Here's your ticket out of Common Core

Aug 27 2014 6:59pm CDT | Source: WND

Common Core math problem The Common Core school standards imposed on teachers by Washington bureaucrats have been rejected by multiple states, targeted by lawsuits and criticized as more indoctrination than education. Now parents are being given a turn to take a whack at the one-size-fits-all program that relegates George Washington to a half a sentence and compares the Declaration of Independence to a high-school romance breakup ...
