Syria won't be like Iraq, says Rice

Sep 10 2013, 4:18am CDT | by IANS

Washington, Sep 10 (IANS) US National Security Advisor Susan Rice lobbied for a military strike against Syria and said in a speech it won't be another war as in Iraq or Afghanistan.

Washington, Sep 10 — US National Security Advisor Susan Rice lobbied for a military strike against Syria and said in a speech it won't be another war as in Iraq or Afghanistan.

Rice was speaking at the New America Foundation, a Washington think tank, Monday as she outlined the US plan for a post-strike political settlement to resolve the underlying conflict in Syria, reports Xinhua.

She accused Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's regime of using chemical weapons, saying the "escalating use of chemical weapons threatens the national security of the United States" and that of its allies.

Rice said if US fails to respond to it, there would be a greater risk of violence and instability in the Middle East and North Africa. She also raised questions "whether the United States is truly prepared to employ the full range of its power to defend our national interests".

Addressing concerns of the US public on military intervention, Rice said the actions proposed by Obama will be "limited strikes to deter the Syrian regime from using chemical weapons and to degrade their ability to do so again".

"This would not be the United States launching another war. As the president has said, repeatedly, this will not be Iraq or Afghanistan," said Rice.

Rice said the US has been actively pushing for international support for the action, and will continue to pursue "our broader Syria strategy" after the military strikes, which she said the strikes "would complement and reinforce".

"Our overarching goal is to end the underlying conflict through a negotiated, political transition in which Assad leaves power," said Rice.

"The best way to achieve this is to keep the country and its institutions intact, but all parties have to be willing to negotiate."

Rice also said the US supports the creation of a representative transitional authority that organises elections, and intends to "renew our push for the UN-sponsored Geneva process following any limited strikes".

Islamist militia seizes US embassy in Libya

Aug 31 2014 2:30pm CDT | Source: Big Government

If Barack Obama's hideous foreign policy debacles were a stage play, this is the point where Hillary Clinton would be lowered on wires to fly around the stage shrieking "WHAT DIFFERENCE DOES IT MAKE?"  Tripoli has fallen to Islamists, prompting Egypt and the United Arab Emirates to conduct bombing runs against the Muslim Brotherhood without even bothering to inform former U.S. President Barack ...

The hell that is the Obama White House

Aug 20 2014 4:45pm CDT | Source: WND

(Frontpage) — Let me begin by acknowledging that this inspirational title is lifted from a tweet by screen actor James Woods. And now I will explicate his tweet. Every sentient human being whose brain isn’t stuffed with ideological fairy dust can see that Obama is behind every major scandal of his administration from Benghazi to the I.R.S. disgrace. How can one know this? Because the culprits haven’ ...

Are you a gullible stooge or real American?

Aug 13 2014 7:03pm CDT | Source: WND

As the dumbing down of America races out of control at supersonic velocity down the uncharted highway to fundamental transformation hell, one does not have to look very hard to find examples of the human species plummeting into the abyss of soulless and dishonest indecency. It is heartbreaking and downright disastrous that it goes all the way to the top. For example, St. Louis Archbishop Robert Carlson and th ...

(NBC NEWS) The United States announced Tuesday it will provide $180 million in emergency food aid to South Sudan, warning of a “shocking” crisis in the world’s youngest nation following months of civil war. Obama's Iraq narratives contradicted by the Pentagon, intelligence community, and Obama

Aug 11 2014 4:44pm CDT | Source: Big Government

Flailing for any excuse to get himself off the hook, our teenage President tried blaming the intelligence community for under-selling the menace of ISIS to him.  Nope, says the Pentagon - we knew how dangerous they were, and warned the President early and often. Well, says Obama, it's no big deal that I pulled all the American troops out of Iraq, because we can take care of ISIS with airstrikes.  Nope, says the Pentagon - airstrikes have "slowed" the terror state's ...
