Indian-American Manju Goel to run for US Congress

Chicago, Sep 10 (IANS) Taking aim at "Obamacare" and the national debt, India-born Manju Goel is seeking Republican nomination for a Congressional run to challenge incumbent Democrat Tammy Duckworth.

Chicago, Sep 10 — Taking aim at "Obamacare" and the national debt, India-born Manju Goel is seeking Republican nomination for a Congressional run to challenge incumbent Democrat Tammy Duckworth.

Goel, an Aurora resident and conservative is backed by a national group of Republicans, including Texas congressman Pete Sessions, in her run for 8th Congressional District of Illinois state, according to Chicago Daily Herald

Outlining her campaign platform at a rally in Elk Grove Village Sunday, Goel took particular aim at "Obamacare," which she called the "biggest of all job killers."

"Obamacare has to go, and Tammy Duckworth must go," she said asserting that neither patients nor doctors like Obama's signature legislation Affordable Health Care Act, dubbed Obamacare.

"America is on the wrong track," she was quoted as saying. "We are spending $1.60 for every dollar we bring in. We are discouraging rather than encouraging entrepreneurs and job creators with burdensome regulations."

In her campaign literature, Goel said she grew up in a middle-class family in northern India and came to the United States at the age of 21.

She has degrees in applied computer science and health care management and served as a process improvement specialist for Advocate Healthcare. Today, she works as a self-employed consultant specializing in process control improvement.

Goel arrived at the event with her backers, Sessions, the former chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee, and Carol Stream Indian-American businessman Shalli Kumar, Herald said.

Both Sessions and Kumar are chairing a project to field 10 Indian-American Republican Congressional candidates.

During the 2012 campaign, Kumar and other businessmen established an Indian-American SuperPAC to support Duckworth's opponent in the general election, former congressman Joe Walsh, the Herald reported.

U.K. Ad Council Rules ‘Clean Coal’ Isn’t Clean, Bars Peabody Energy From ‘Misleading’ Public

Aug 20 2014 3:53pm CDT | Source: ThinkProgress

CREDIT: Shutterstock “Clean coal” is not clean. Even if the best coal plants had completely eliminated emissions of acid rain pollution and mercury — which they haven’t — you’d still have that pesky carbon pollution to destroy a livable climate and ruin the lives of billions of people. So it should not be surprising that the U.K.’s Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has barred Peabody Energy from using the term “clean coal” to imply coal is emission ...

Aug 4 2014 1:59pm CDT | Source: Big Government

Some say  that Democrat Congressman Alan Grayson is a 'Top Jew' when it comes to supporting Israel, while others say he is just another liberal hack that really doesn't care much for our only real ally in the Middle East. But now that the  U.S. Congress has pushed through a $225 million aid package to replenish Israel’s “Iron Dome” defense system, Grayson cannot take credit for voting in support of the b ...

A Market Approach to Immigration

Aug 1 2014 8:21pm CDT | Source: Politics - The Huffington Post

The U.S. Congress has proven itself irrelevant in the face of the humanitarian crisis we see with migrants, and particularly children, who make their way to the United States under the pressures of extreme poverty and the violence that poverty sometimes breeds. With no reform in sight for our broken immigration system, the president of the United States should focus on addressing the market forces tha ...

Immigration Benefits for Sons and Daughters of New Permanent Residents: Another Setback

Aug 1 2014 4:29pm CDT | Source: Politics - The Huffington Post

The U.S. Supreme Court recently restricted the use of the Child Status Protection Act so that certain children who turned 21 before their parent received a green card would have to go to the back of the line and start their wait all over again! The Child Status Protection Act Originally passed by the U.S. Congress in 2002, the Child Status Protection Act permits immigrant children to not "age out." That is, they would retain their place on the waiting list for a green card as if ...
