Indian-American Manju Goel to run for US Congress

Sep 10 2013, 4:19am CDT | by IANS

Chicago, Sep 10 (IANS) Taking aim at "Obamacare" and the national debt, India-born Manju Goel is seeking Republican nomination for a Congressional run to challenge incumbent Democrat Tammy Duckworth.

Chicago, Sep 10 — Taking aim at "Obamacare" and the national debt, India-born Manju Goel is seeking Republican nomination for a Congressional run to challenge incumbent Democrat Tammy Duckworth.

Goel, an Aurora resident and conservative is backed by a national group of Republicans, including Texas congressman Pete Sessions, in her run for 8th Congressional District of Illinois state, according to Chicago Daily Herald

Outlining her campaign platform at a rally in Elk Grove Village Sunday, Goel took particular aim at "Obamacare," which she called the "biggest of all job killers."

"Obamacare has to go, and Tammy Duckworth must go," she said asserting that neither patients nor doctors like Obama's signature legislation Affordable Health Care Act, dubbed Obamacare.

"America is on the wrong track," she was quoted as saying. "We are spending $1.60 for every dollar we bring in. We are discouraging rather than encouraging entrepreneurs and job creators with burdensome regulations."

In her campaign literature, Goel said she grew up in a middle-class family in northern India and came to the United States at the age of 21.

She has degrees in applied computer science and health care management and served as a process improvement specialist for Advocate Healthcare. Today, she works as a self-employed consultant specializing in process control improvement.

Goel arrived at the event with her backers, Sessions, the former chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee, and Carol Stream Indian-American businessman Shalli Kumar, Herald said.

Both Sessions and Kumar are chairing a project to field 10 Indian-American Republican Congressional candidates.

During the 2012 campaign, Kumar and other businessmen established an Indian-American SuperPAC to support Duckworth's opponent in the general election, former congressman Joe Walsh, the Herald reported.

How your life could change in 3 weeks

Oct 12 2014 3:52pm CDT | Source: WND

Something with potential for good or evil is rushing down upon us, to be followed in two years by something with equal potential for good or evil. No, I am not talking about a potential terror attack by ISIS or other Islamic terrorist group, although I do not discount that possibility. I am speaking of something that could have lasting effects on us, our children and our children’s children. “What” ...

Republicans More Interested and Motivated For Mid-Term Elections

Sep 30 2014 9:25pm CDT | Source: Big Government

A new survey released by Louisiana State University Public Policy Research Lab indicates that Republicans are both following the news more closely and more likely to vote when it comes to the upcoming November elections. "Generally, in mid-term elections, Republicans make up a bigger share [of the voters.], but I don't think that's all that's going on here. Republicans are just very excited about [the U.S ...

MSNBC's Rachel Maddow Questions Obama's Airstrikes: 'Is It Legal?'

Sep 23 2014 12:13am CDT | Source: Big Government

On Tuesday morning’s early morning coverage of U.S. air strikes on ISIS targets in Syria, MSNBC host Rachel Maddow expressed her skepticism on a number of different levels as to whether or not this action was proper given strategic and legal concerns. Among her questions, Maddow wondered what sort of reactions to the strikes might come, whether or not it would be effective, if they were putting civilians in harm’s way and if the ...

Is It Me?

Sep 22 2014 11:13am CDT | Source: Politics - The Huffington Post

A few days or so ago my iPhone pinged me with a message from one newspaper or another; congress has authorized the arming of rebels in Syria. I thought about it for a while. Weren't ISIS rebels that were armed once upon a time? Who are these new rebels? Does anyone even know what the hell is going on there that we can give this or that guy MORE weapons? This, to me, seems like a ploy by the military industrial complex to throw fuel into the burning fire of the Middle East, ...

The Fix: Diversity is coming to Congress — very, very slowly

Sep 13 2014 7:00am CDT | Source: Post Politics: - The Washington Post

If a number of things fall into place and the right people win a few key races come November, the United States Congress could -- could! -- be comprised of 20 percent women in 2015. That's according to analysis done by Time magazine of Rutgers University's Center for American Women and Politics, which earlier this week outlined the gender composition of the 2014 field of candidates. The Senate is already at 20 percent, but the House lags behind ...
