33 killed in Iraq attacks

Sep 14 2013, 3:17pm CDT | by IANS

Baghdad, Sep 15 (IANS) At least 33 people were killed and 45 others wounded in multiple attacks across Iraq Saturday, police said.

Baghdad, Sep 15 — At least 33 people were killed and 45 others wounded in multiple attacks across Iraq Saturday, police said.

In the northern province of Nineveh, 27 people were killed and 36 wounded in a suicide bombing near provincial capital Mosul, Xinhua reported citing a police source.

The attack occurred in the afternoon when a suicide bomber blew up his explosive vest at a funeral in Baashiqa town, some 10 km northeast of Mosul, which is about 400 km north of here.

Earlier, the source put the toll at 22 killed and 41 wounded. The toll could rise further as many of the wounded are in critical condition.

Elsewhere, six people were killed and nine others wounded in separate bombings and shootings in central Iraq.

A roadside bomb detonated at a village in Abu Ghraib area, some 25 km west of the national capital Baghdad, killing three people and wounding five others, a police source said.

Gunmen in a car killed a civilian and wounded another in a drive-by shooting in Ramadi city, some 100 km west of Baghdad, the source added.

A man and a woman were killed and three women got wounded in a roadside bomb explosion on a main road at a village outside Dujail city, some 60 km north of Baghdad, a police source said.

Iraq is witnessing its worst eruption of violence in recent years, which raises fears that the country is sliding back to a full-blown civil conflict that peaked in 2006 and 2007 when monthly death toll sometimes exceeded 3,000.

President Obama’s Address: Too Little, Too Late

Sep 15 2014 9:59am CDT | Source: Big Government

On September 10, the world watched as President Obama outlined his plan to address the rising threat of the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIL). Unfortunately, his speech was simply too little, too late. While the president used a lot of the right words, they did not compensate for his failure to lead in a way that strengthens the United States, inspires confidence in our allies, and instills dread and fear in our enemies. In his address, President ...

Iraq: ISIS Using Yazidis as Human Shields Against U.S. Airstrikes

Sep 15 2014 8:34am CDT | Source: Big Government

DOHUK, Iraq-- Reports from eyewitnesses here in Northern Iraq spoke to Breitbart News about how the terrorist group the Islamic State is using Yazidi hostages as human shields to protect themselves against U.S. airstrikes – using the same strategy as Hamas in Gaza. “ISIS sells the women as slave girls, the way they are doing it, they are using the women as human shields to protect them from U.S. airstrikes,” said Hameed, a Yazidi refugee who is seeking safe haven in Northern Iraq ...

The Fix: Obama’s crisis of (foreign policy) confidence

Sep 15 2014 5:30am CDT | Source: Post Politics: - The Washington Post

Americans approved of President Obama's decision to launch airstrikes in Iraq and now strongly approve of his plan to expand into Syria the effort to combat the Islamic State. And yet, Obama's approval rating on foreign policy remains a dismal 34 percent in a new NBC/Wall Street Journal/Annenberg poll released Sunday. That's even as the survey shows Americans approve of Obama's Middle East plan by an overwhelming margin, 66 percent ...

Why arm Mideast Muslims, not Christians?

Sep 14 2014 4:23pm CDT | Source: WND

(Warning: This column contains extremely graphic images of children killed and beheaded by ISIS.) Barack Obama’s “strategy” for defeating ISIS is to arm what he describes as Muslim “moderates,” mainly members of the so-called Free Syrian Army. He also claims most victims of ISIS’ killing spree are Muslims, a questionable claim at best and a misleading one for certain. ISIS has specifically targeted for rape, slavery, crucifixion, beheading, torture and ...

Mr. Obama, Reconsider Waging War in Syria, But If You Must...

Sep 14 2014 12:47pm CDT | Source: Politics - The Huffington Post

Okay, it's been decided. The United States will wage war in Syria (yes "war", that's what you call it whenever a sovereign nation launches a military attack against another sovereign nation). It will start with air attacks against ISIL (Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant) forces, probably as they are moving from Iraq into Syria. That way, the Obama administration can say that the US was simply gi ...

Kerry: Question of Whether America at War with ISIS 'Waste of Time'

Sep 14 2014 10:46am CDT | Source: Big Government

Sunday on CBS's "Face the Nation," Secretary of State John Kerry said the question if the Untied States is at War with ISIS is a "waste of time."  Kerry said, "I think frankly kind of tortured debate going on about terminology. What I'm focused on obviously is getting done what we need to get done to ISIL, but if people need find the place to land in terms of what we did in Iraq, originally this is not a war. This is not combat troops on the ground. It ...
