Baghdad, Sep 15 (IANS) At least 26 people were killed and 81 wounded in a series of bombings, including 12 car bomb attacks, across Iraq Sunday, police said.

Baghdad, Sep 15 — At least 26 people were killed and 81 wounded in a series of bombings, including 12 car bomb attacks, across Iraq Sunday, police said.

Two car bombs struck a marketplace in the city of Hillah, some 100 km south of Baghdad, while a third car bomb went off in an industrial area, a local police source told Xinhua.

The three car bombings killed a total of 13 people and wounded 30 others.

In Iraq's eastern province of Wasit, two car bombs went off outside a restaurant in the town of Hafriyah, killing two people and wounding 10 others.

Two car bombs blew up in succession at a parking lot in the town of Swayra, some 70 km southeast of Baghdad, wounding three people.

A roadside bomb was detonated in Wasit's provincial capital of Kut, wounding a civilian.

Elsewhere, three people were killed and 18 wounded in a roadside bomb explosion in an industrial area of the Shi'ite holy city Karbala, a local police source said.

In southern Iraq, two car bombs ripped through the city of Nasriyah wounding 11 people.

Also in the south, a car bomb detonated in the oil-hub city of Basra killing three people and wounding two others.

In a separate incident, a civilian was killed and four wounded when a car blew up near the passing convoy of Ryadh al-Adhadh, chairman of the Baghdad provincial council, in Baghdad's northern district of Adhamiyah, an interior ministry source told Xinhua.

Adhadh was unharmed in the attack.

A civilian was killed and another wounded in a roadside bomb attack in Abu Ghraib area, near Baghdad, while another civilian was wounded when a bomb attached to his car exploded in Abu Dsheer district in the southern part of the capital.

In northern Iraq, gunmen shot dead three passengers in the city of Shirqat, reported Xinhua citing police.

No group has so far claimed responsibility for the attacks.

Stephen Colbert Stomps All Over Fox News' 'Boots On The Ground' Coverage

Sep 19 2014 4:27pm CDT | Source: Politics - The Huffington Post

WARNING: Some shoes may have been harmed in the making of this "Colbert Report" segment. Will there or will there not be boots on the ground in Iraq? Whatever the answer, Fox News is flat-out furious about it. But as far as Stephen Colbert is concerned, there's no question at all: "Of course there won't be American boots on the ground, our shoes are all made in China." Apparently, Fox News thought it could bring a littl ...

Rachel Maddow Is Repulsed At Congress For Taking A Bajillion Days Off While New War Is Launched

Sep 19 2014 7:43am CDT | Source: Politics - The Huffington Post

Rachel Maddow has already teared into Congress over its handling of the conflict in Iraq and Syria, but a new move by the House and Senate has pushed the MSNBC host over the edge. On Thursday, President Barack Obama made a speech praising Congress for quickly passing new legislation that will support his plan to arm and train Syrian rebels. That very same day, the House announced that members of Congress would be taking their five-week recess a week early, and would most likely not return unt ...

Blast them back to Stone Age

Sep 18 2014 6:11pm CDT | Source: WND

Let me see if I get this: We, the U.S., have satellite coverage of most the world and can read a license plate from space, and the NSA has been listening to Internet and phone traffic and Internet chatting worldwide – yet somehow we don’t have a clue about where there are concentrations of these ISIS characters in Syria and Iraq, and they are continuing to grow, making them an even larger visible target? We also have a fleet of B52 bombers that can carry 80,000 pounds of bombs each p ...

Ratings: 'Meet the Press' Falls Back to Third But Still Improves

Sep 18 2014 2:15pm CDT | Source: Big Government

With the debut of a new host and a presidential appearance in the run up to Obama's pre-emptive war in Iraq, it would have been impossible for "Meet the Press" to achieve anything other than first place two weeks ago, which it did. Chuck Todd's second week saw a return to third place behind CBS' "Face the Nation" and ABC's "This Week." The silver lining, ...

The Fix: Rand Paul just delivered a stem-winder against arming Syrian rebels. And many people agree with him.

Sep 18 2014 1:59pm CDT | Source: Post Politics: - The Washington Post

Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) was just on the Senate floor, speaking at length in opposition to arming the Syrian rebels against the Islamic State -- even as he supports airstrikes against that same foe. It was pretty apparently a losing battle for Paul, as there won't be a separate vote on the matter. And on its surface, it would appear to be poor politics; after all, the American people a ...

Iraq War Veteran Opens Up About Suicide In The Military

Sep 18 2014 1:44pm CDT | Source: Politics - The Huffington Post

An estimated 22 veterans die by suicide each day. For Iraq war veteran Jason Hansman, this staggering statistic is especially personal. In a HuffPost Live conversation on Wednesday, Hansman remembered a fellow veteran, whom he lost to suicide in 2011. "It’s very, very difficult to lose someone that you know, someone that you care about, someone that you served in Iraq with," he told host Caroline Modarressay-Tehrani. "It’s really, really, incredibly t ...
