Pakistani Taliban demand release of prisoners

Islamabad, Sep 16 (IANS) Pakistani Taliban Sunday demanded the release of their prisoners and withdrawal of army from the country's restive tribal regions, which it says could be part of confidence building measures for the possible peace talks, Xinhua reported.

Islamabad, Sep 16 — Pakistani Taliban Sunday demanded the release of their prisoners and withdrawal of army from the country's restive tribal regions, which it says could be part of confidence building measures for the possible peace talks, Xinhua reported.

Taliban set conditions after a parliamentary conference, hosted by the government in Islamabad Sep 9, called upon the government to initiate dialogue with the militants.

Taliban spokesperson Shahidullah Shahid said the group would trust the government's powers and intention if the Taliban prisoners are freed and the troops are withdrawn from the tribal areas.

"The government should show sincerity and prove its powers ahead of peace talks," Shahid told the media.

He said a three-day meeting of the central council of the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) was held with the chief Hakimullah Mehsud in the chair, and asked the government to take such steps to build trust.

"We still doubt the government's powers and its sincerity. Talks will be useful when we realise that the government has powers," the spokesperson said.

"The governments in the past did not honour their promises to us and we do not want the same to be repeated again," Shahid said.

Political analysts are of the view that the government will not accept the Taliban demands unless the talks begin and make progress.

They are also surprised that on one hand the Taliban are making demands but on the other they have continued attacks on Pakistani forces.

They are of the opinion that conditions will make the peace process complicated.

Taliban's attack in the country's northwest area, which resulted into the killing of two senior officers, has prompted strong condemnation across the country.

Analysts also believe that such attacks could mount pressure on the government to review plan for talks with the Taliban.

How Climate Change Helped ISIS

Sep 29 2014 4:42pm CDT | Source: Politics - The Huffington Post

As the Obama administration undertakes a highly public, multilateral campaign to degrade and destroy the militant jihadists known as ISIS, ISIL and the Islamic State, many in the West remain unaware that climate played a significant role in the rise of Syria's extremists. A historic drought afflicted the country from 2006 through 2010, setting off a dire humanitarian crisis for millions of Syrians. Yet the four-year drought evoked lit ...

Atlantic Reporter Compares Palin to Burqa-Wearing Taliban Supporter

Sep 19 2014 1:19pm CDT | Source: Big Government

Unfortunately I don't possess the intellectual nuance required to grasp why an elite leftwing journalist  would think it was okay to compare a female governor and mother of five to a burqa-wearing Taliban supporter brandishing a pistol. Apparently, Jeffrey Goldberg's intellectual superiority is so superior only dogs can hear it: -- -- Goldberg deleted the tweet.  He didn't apologize. Because that would be an ...

Obama's ISIS Speech Can Only Harm U.S. Interests

Sep 10 2014 8:38am CDT | Source: Big Government

As President Barack Obama prepares to address the nation Wednesday evening about his strategy for defeating ISIS--a strategy he recently said did not exist--it is worth noting that the president's foreign policy speeches are rarely helpful, and often harmful, to U.S. interests and foreign policy goals. Focused on politics rather than on policy, Obama is more articulate about the limits of U.S. power ...

Humourless Twitter Leftists Side with the Taliban to Criticise UKIP

Aug 26 2014 8:53am CDT | Source: Big Government

I thought I’d seen it all when ‘anti-fascist’ rent-a-mob types screamed words such as ‘racist’ and ‘coconut’ at UKIP’s Black, Asian, Muslim and Jewish supporters at a big rally in London back in May. Now, my astonishment at the lunacy and double-standards of the vociferous far-left has ratcheted up another notch. I’ve just finished writing a chapter on women’s rights in a new publication called Beyond Multiculturalism, edited by UKIP’s culture spo ...

Boehner: Obama WH Again Ignored 'Laws It Finds Inconvenient' with Taliban Release

Aug 22 2014 2:22pm CDT | Source: Big Government

In the wake of a Government Accountability Office report that concluded the Obama administration broke the law when it released five Taliban Guantanamo prisoners for Bowe Bergdahl, House Speaker John Boehner slammed the administration’s propensity to ignore laws. “[I]t is yet another reminder of this White House’s stubborn and dangerous practice of simply ignoring laws it finds inconvenient,” Boehner said in a statement. “As news reports continue to suggest that the president ...

The American Muslim Imperative

Aug 19 2014 1:29pm CDT | Source: Politics - The Huffington Post

A declaration last week by a European Muslim academic that he would indefinitely abstain from several North American Muslim conferences and conventions because of a perceived political apathy on global crises, such as in Gaza and elsewhere, has sparked intense and important debate on the role of North American Muslim -- and, for the purpose of this piece, American Muslim -- community organizations. In order to forge stronger community progr ...

Dershowitz Asks: Does Jimmy Carter's Support for Hamas Constitute a Criminal Offense?

Aug 12 2014 2:55pm CDT | Source: Big Government

While Jimmy Carter was busy accusing Israel of war crimes and encouraging greater international support for the terrorist group Hamas, a noted legal expert and civil rights advocate claims the former American president may have committed several criminal felonies that ban the provision of material support to terrorist organizations. Recently retired Harvard Law Professor Alan Dershowitz told J.D. Hayworth at Newsmax TV that Carter’s recent article ...

CIA op: Clinton lied about Bin Laden opportunity

Aug 2 2014 8:47pm CDT | Source: WND

WASHINGTON – Bill Clinton is a “monumental liar” for saying he refused to take out Osama bin Laden because of collateral damage, said Michael Scheuer, who headed the CIA’s Bin Laden unit at the time. An audio recording of Clinton made Sept. 10, 2001, recently surfaced in which Clinton said he chose not to kill bin Laden because he would have had to “destroy a little town called Kandahar in Afghanistan and kill ...
