Iran not seeking war with any nation: Rouhani

Sep 19 2013, 3:48pm CDT | by IANS

Washington, Sep 20 (IANS) Describing Israel as an "occupier" which has brought instability to the Middle East, Iran's new President Hassan Rouhani has said that his country does not seek war with any country, Geo News reported.

Washington, Sep 20 — Describing Israel as an "occupier" which has brought instability to the Middle East, Iran's new President Hassan Rouhani has said that his country does not seek war with any country, Geo News reported.

In the second part of his interview with US broadcaster NBC aired Thursday, Rouhani, though avoided answering a question whether he believed the Holocaust was a myth like his predecessor but said Tehran was seeking peace in the region instead of war.

"We believe in the ballot box. We do not seek war with any country. We seek peace and friendship among the nations of the region."

Rouhani, who took office last month, branded arch foe Israel an "occupier" that "does injustice ... and has brought instability to the region with its warmongering policies".

The Iranian president also said that his country would never develop nuclear weapons.

Rouhani, during the interview, aired just days before he travels to New York for the UN General Assembly, said he had full authority to make a deal with Western powers on his country's atomic programme.

He also talked about his initial interactions with US President Barack Obama, who had sent him a letter of congratulations after his election.

"From my point of view, the tone of the letter was positive and constructive," reported Xinhua quoted Rouhani as saying in the interview. "It could be subtle and tiny steps for a very important future."

"I believe the leaders in all countries could think in their national interests and they should not be under the influence of pressure groups. I hope to witness such an atmosphere in the future."

After being elected president this summer, Rouhani promised to end Iran's international isolation.

Oct 21 2014 6:10pm CDT | Source: WND

Why are embassy bombers running Iraqi government? In an scandalous revelation, it turns out that, in Iraq, the just-appointed Cabinet positions, the prime minister, foreign minister and vice president, who was the former prime minister, are members of an Iran-based terrorist organization responsible for the 1983 bombing of the U.S. Embassy in Kuwait. The terrorist organization is called Dawa. And it gets worse! The just-appointed minister of the interior is from another – yes, another – even mor ...

ISIS Still Threatens Yazidis On Mount Sinjar

Oct 21 2014 5:48pm CDT | Source: Politics - The Huffington Post

It was the imminent threat of a massacre on Iraq's Sinjar mountain that first drew U.S. airstrikes against the Islamic State militant group in August. That threat never went away. On Monday, Islamic State militants returned to attack Sinjar, prompting members of the Yazidi minority living in the area to find refuge up the mountain yet again. Many had never left their homes, even though ISIS fighters continued to surround the mountain. Swedish journalist Khazar Fatemi he ...

Obama's Kobani Crossroads

Oct 14 2014 9:38am CDT | Source: Big Government

Obama has consistently disregarded the advice of his military experts on the ISIS threat. And he seems to have written off the Kurdish-Syrian town of Kobani, which may soon be overrun by ISIS. Whatever the U.S. accomplished after about a decade of war in Iraq has, in a matter of months, deteriorated to a situation that may become unprecedented in its instability and threat to Western interests. Obama’s clumsy departure from Iraq, his military mismanagement of the mess that ens ...

Iran lays out impossible red lines for nuclear talks

Oct 12 2014 11:46pm CDT | Source: WND

(Algemeiner) Some six weeks before the conclusion of crucial nuclear talks between P5+1 world powers and Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, in a Twitter feed he is believed to operate, posted a graphic laying out 11 non-negotiable “red lines,” beyond which his country’s negotiators would, presumably, not budge. “During the past year, Ayatollah Khamenei, in line with his support for the Iranian negotiators, has also stressed on the Iranian nation’s rights and has called it necessary to o ...
