World must facilitate peaceful Syria solution: Putin

Sep 20 2013, 6:54am CDT | by IANS

Moscow, Sep 20 (IANS) Russian President Vladimir Putin has said the rival sides in Syria should find a peaceful way out of the crisis through mediation by the international community.

Moscow, Sep 20 — Russian President Vladimir Putin has said the rival sides in Syria should find a peaceful way out of the crisis through mediation by the international community.

"No matter how difficult it is, we should find points of contact, facilitate their reaching agreements, find a balance of interests," Xinhua quoted Putin as saying Thursday at the Valdai International Club, a forum that debates on Russia and its role in the world.

"Then the situation in the country might stabilise for sometime and perhaps even improve," he added.

Putin pointed out that the West had ignored similar Russian proposals when the NATO-led coalition was preparing for operations in Iraq.

Putin noted that ignoring Russian warnings has led to the Iraqis suffering till date.

He also took the situation in Libya as another example of the consequences of an ill-planned foreign intervention in a country's domestic conflict.

"I am not saying that there was a correct and balanced regime (in Libya). (Muammar) Gaddafi devised his own political theory and it does not mean that it was right to apply it (to Libya) for another hundred years," the Russian president said.

"But the methods that were used to sort out this problem failed and are highly likely to fail in the future," he said.

Last weekend, Washington and Moscow struck a deal to place Syrian chemical arms under international control in a bid to avert a US military strike on the embattled Middle Eastern country.

But in subsequent days, the US and Russia have been at odds over the agreement's enforcement.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov had Monday dismissed calls for a UN resolution authorising military force against Syria if Syrian President Bashar al-Assad failed to comply with plans to secure chemical weapons, arguing that such an appeal amounted to a "lack of understanding" of the plan.

In a book that thoroughly examines the successes and failures of the Tea Party in the age of Obama, Breitbart News Senior Editor-at-Large Joel Pollak's chapter on former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin shows why Palin unmasked the media's biases against conservatives just like Barack Obama exposed the media's biases for liberals, especially those Obama's mold. "To many conservatives, the way the media treated Palin was only a more obnoxious and ob ...

Memo from 'W': 'Welcome to the war on terror'

Sep 24 2014 6:30pm CDT | Source: WND

To: President Barack Obama From: Former President George W. Bush Topic: Iraq Message: “We’re ba-a-a-ack!” I’ve been quiet these last six years. But your belated decision to “destroy” ISIS prompted me to write. You repeatedly scorched my presidency, said that I so botched up things, so destroyed American foreign policy that all you had to do was not be George W. Bush. “Don’t do stupid stuff” was your West-Wing mantra. What a difference six years ...

Obama: My Foreign Policy Is 'American Leadership at It's Best'

Sep 24 2014 8:33am CDT | Source: Big Government

During a New York fundraiser, President Obama detailed his foreign policy solutions in the midst of the chaotic events facing the world, describing it as “American leadership at it’s best.” Obama admitted that although the United States was in far better economic shape than when he took office, there was still some “anxiety” in the United States about world events. “It’s not unprecedented,” he said, but cautioned that world affairs weren’t as bad as during the Cold War or World War I and ...

Best ISIS strategy: Nuke 'em

Sep 19 2014 6:36pm CDT | Source: WND

With near unanimity among experts in warfare, President Barack Hussein Obama’s “strategy” to defeat ISIS is a sham that is designed to lose. While the “Muslim in Chief’s” motivation to fail can be attributed in part to his Islamic heritage, Obama’s professed method of combat is strangely reminiscent of President George W. Bush’s initial strategy after Sept. 11, 2001. In the weeks following the horrific terrorist attacks on the World Tra ...

More unlawful presidential killing

Sep 17 2014 6:29pm CDT | Source: WND

As the debate rages over whether the president needs congressional authorization for war prior to his deployment of the military to degrade or destroy ISIS, the terrorist organization that none of us had heard about until a few months ago, the nation has lost sight of the more fundamental issue of President Obama’s infidelity to the rule of law. On the lawfulness of his proposed war, the president has ...

The 'Good' Iraq War? 5 Things to Consider Before We March Into Another Mideast Quagmire

Sep 16 2014 7:09pm CDT | Source: Politics - The Huffington Post

ISIS is a bad bunch. A deliberately macabre and diabolical death cult. Their shock and horror strategy fuels fear in their subjects, and pride in their growing band of messianic losers, freaks and disaffected Ba'athists (thank you, Douglas Feith). However, in many ways, they are no different than other marauding bands of bad guys around the planet: from Uganda's (now possibly Congo's) Ach ...

What would Braveheart do?

Sep 15 2014 7:27pm CDT | Source: WND

No matter how the vote turns out on Thursday in Scotland, either for independence or continued union with Britain, the disintegration of the Old Continent appears almost inevitable. Already the British government has conceded that, even if the Scots vote for union, Edinburgh will receive greater powers to rule itself. Cheering for the breakup of the U.K. are Catalans and Basques, Bretons and Corsicans, Tyroleans, Venetians, Flemish, all dreaming ...
