12 killed in Baghdad bombings

Sep 23 2013, 6:44pm CDT | by IANS

Baghdad, Sep 24 (IANS) At least 12 people were killed and 48 others wounded in three bombing attacks in the Iraqi capital of Baghdad Monday, police said.

Baghdad, Sep 24 — At least 12 people were killed and 48 others wounded in three bombing attacks in the Iraqi capital of Baghdad Monday, police said.

A car bomb went off Monday evening near a funeral in the Adhamiya district in northern Baghdad, killing seven people and injuring 30 others, Xinhua reported citing a police source.

Three people were killed and eight others wounded when a roadside bomb exploded near a park in the Sulaikh area in northern Baghdad, the source said, adding that two people were killed and 10 others wounded when a bomb struck a cafe in Sadar city in eastern Baghdad.

The bombing near the funeral in the Adhamiya district was the third deadly attack targeting mourners in the Iraqi capital during the past three days.

At least 15 people were killed and 35 others wounded when a suicide bomber blew himself up at a funeral in the Dora district in southern Baghdad Sunday.

Sunday's attack came one day after two car bombs exploded near a funeral in the Sadr City in eastern Baghdad, killing 78 people and injuring 202 others.

Iraq is witnessing its worst eruption of violence in recent years, which raises fears that the country is sliding back to the full-blown civil conflict that peaked in 2006 and 2007, when monthly death toll sometimes exceeded 3,000.

The UN Assistance Mission for Iraq said earlier this month that almost 5,000 civilians were killed and 12,000 others injured in Iraq from January to August this year.

Hearts, Minds and Dead Sunnis in Iraq

Sep 16 2014 5:12pm CDT | Source: Politics - The Huffington Post

A critical part of America's plan to resolve all issues left unresolved after nine years of war and occupation is to divide the indigenous Sunnis from the "foreign" Sunnis, i.e., ISIS, and "unite" Iraq. As counter-insurgency theory teaches, bad guys can only thrive when they have local support, what Mao called the "water we swim in." There is a familiar ring to the plan. Unity Plan, 2006 In 2006 the U.S. brokered the ascension (remember the p ...

Muslims Will Support Muslims Over Infidel-Led Mission Against ISIS

Sep 16 2014 1:55pm CDT | Source: Big Government

In response to First U.S. degrade-and-destroy attack on ISIS lands... near Baghdad: Let me repeat myself. Muslims, regardless of whether they are Shia or Sunni, will not take part in an infidel-led war against their own people. Because of this, Iraqis will either support the ISIS cause, or will turn sit this fight out. The fact that ISIS has been able to prop up a military position just 15 miles from Baghdad, is very telling of the kind of defenses the Iraqi military is dealing with. ...

Baghdad Bishop Condones US Air Strikes Against ISIS

Sep 16 2014 1:38pm CDT | Source: Big Government

Today in Rome, the Chaldean Auxiliary Bishop of Baghdad, Shlemon Warduni, suggested that air strikes are useful as a deterrent measure against the militia of the Islamic State, according to the Italian ANSA news service. Air raids are a "means," Warduni said. Moreover, the IS jihadists "sow terror in people’s souls" and "these raids, too, sow a little fear." The United States launched separate air strikes Sunday and Monday from figh ...

Obama Has No ISIS Strategy

Sep 16 2014 10:56am CDT | Source: Politics - The Huffington Post

Obama said a week ago he did not have a strategy to combat ISIS, and that now he does. He was right the first time. Oh, History The United States ignored ISIS for months. Then out of nowhere a complex situation morphed into a struggle to save the Yazidis from so-called genocide, requiring special forces and air strikes. The Yazidis disappeared from view, perhaps saved, certainly no longer needed as an emotional excuse to re-enter a war we had been told ended for America in 2 ...
