Hillary Clinton wrestling with White House run

Sep 23 2013, 11:30pm CDT | by IANS

Washington, Sep 24 (IANS) Not long ago, Hillary Clinton had "absolutely no plans to run" for the White House in 2016. Now she is "wrestling" with the idea, but is in no hurry to decide as it's a decision "not to be made lightly."

Washington, Sep 24 — Not long ago, Hillary Clinton had "absolutely no plans to run" for the White House in 2016. Now she is "wrestling" with the idea, but is in no hurry to decide as it's a decision "not to be made lightly."

A possible White House run by the former Secretary of State and First Lady, whom polls put as the leading contender Democratic nomination, has become a topic of renewed speculation with the publication of an interview by New York magazine.

In her first interview since leaving the State Department, asked by the magazine whether she wrestles with the idea of a possible run, Clinton replied "I do, but I'm both pragmatic and realistic."

"I think I have a pretty good idea of the political and governmental challenges that are facing our leaders, and I'll do whatever I can from whatever position I find myself in to advocate for the values and the policies I think are right for the country," she said.

"I will just continue to weigh what the factors are that would influence me making a decision one way or the other," said Clinton, who started out as a leading contender for Democratic nomination in 2008 too, but narrowly lost out to then Senator Barack Obama.

But "I'm not in any hurry. I think it's a serious decision, not to be made lightly, but it's also not one that has to be made soon," she said. "This election is more than three years away, and I just don't think it's good for the country."

"It's like when you meet somebody at a party and they look over your shoulder to see who else is there, and you want to talk to them about something that's really important; in fact, maybe you came to the party to talk to that particular person, and they just want to know what's next. I feel like that's our political process right now. I just don't think it is good."

Some of Clinton's closest confidants insist she will run, even if she hasn't realized it yet, according to the magazine. Of Clinton's failed 2008 bid, her aide Melanne Verveer told the magazine, "She doesn't repeat her mistakes."

Clinton also told the magazine that after many years, she and her husband Bill Clinton were enjoying their "ordinary" life together.

"We get to be at home together a lot more now than we used to in the last few years. We have a great time; we laugh at our dogs; we watch stupid movies; we take long walks; we go for a swim. You know just ordinary, everyday pleasures," she was quoted as saying.

What Does Hillary Clinton Stand For?

Andrew Sullivan of Great Britain fights
Andrew Sullivan: "I'd like to find a reason to believe she's a political force who stands for something in an era when there is a real appetite for serious change. She could, after all, decide to campaign vociferously in favor of the ACA this summer and fall (universal healthcare is, after all, one of her positions), but that might siphon money away from her foundation and candidacy. She could get o ...

GOP sleuth Barbara Comstock revives Clinton wars

Jul 24 2014 6:15pm CDT | Source: WND

Hillary Clinton Book Signing
(Politico) Fifteen years later, the Clinton Wars are back. The backdrop this time isn’t the White House or Hillary Clinton’s likely presidential run. It’s the Virginia suburbs of Washington, D.C., where a onetime congressional staffer who made her name digging up dirt on the Clintons, Barbara Comstock, is trying to win a seat in Congress herself. Lining up behind Comstock are some of the Clintons’ chief ’90s-era ad ...

Hillary Changing Her Tune on 'It Takes a Village'

Jul 24 2014 1:16pm CDT | Source: Big Government

Hillary Clinton Book Signing
Apparently now that Hillary Clinton has her eyes set on the presidency, she’s jettisoning the “It Takes a Village” meme for which she is famous and returning to the idea that parents are indeed responsible for their children.  The San Francisco Chronicle reported that “Wednesday was a day off from politics,” as Clinton met with parents of young children to push for the “Too Small to Fail” program, co-sponsored by the Bill, Hillary and Chelsea Clinton Foundatio ...

Hillary Clinton Book Signing
If book sales of the last three weeks are any indication, Hillary Clinton’s life is nowhere near as interesting for those who want to know than the internecine warfare between the Clintons and the Obamas. The last three weeks, Clinton’s book Hard Choices has been outsold by Ed Klein’s Blood Feud: The Clintons v. the Obamas. Klein’s book is one spot ahead of Clinton’s on the New York Times hardcover nonfiction best ...

Hillary Clinton Book Signing
Lest there be any doubt that Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) is training for his presidential run (it’s a marathon, not a sprint), he teased a preview this week of a matchup against Hillary Clinton. And like the arguments of so many whippersnappers before him, his would pit the future against the past. Or, put another way, the ...

Chalking Up Montana As A Democratic Loss

Jul 23 2014 6:31pm CDT | Source: Politics - The Huffington Post

China's Muslim's Observe Ramadan
I had intended to write a column today to take an overview of all the close races for Senate seats. Every so often, I like to take a look at what the chances are for both parties to make gains in November (or, this year, to see whether the Republicans are going to gain a majority, realistically). Instead, after seeing the recent news from the New York Times, what is now called for is kissing goodbye any chances that the Montana Senate seat up for grabs will stay Democratic. To be ...

Labour Party Congress 2014
Bill and Hillary Clinton Juanita Broaddrick, a former nursing-home operator and volunteer in one of Bill Clinton’s early political campaigns, was dubbed Jane Doe No. 5 by investigators for Kenneth Starr’s impeachment report to Congress regarding Clinton’s alleged crimes. Contacted as part of the Paula Jones case, she initially denied Clinton made any unwelcome sexual advances, but later she claimed she was raped in 1978 by the then-Arkansas attorney general. Her story was revealed in 1998 ...
