Hillary Clinton wrestling with White House run

Washington, Sep 24 (IANS) Not long ago, Hillary Clinton had "absolutely no plans to run" for the White House in 2016. Now she is "wrestling" with the idea, but is in no hurry to decide as it's a decision "not to be made lightly."

Washington, Sep 24 — Not long ago, Hillary Clinton had "absolutely no plans to run" for the White House in 2016. Now she is "wrestling" with the idea, but is in no hurry to decide as it's a decision "not to be made lightly."

A possible White House run by the former Secretary of State and First Lady, whom polls put as the leading contender Democratic nomination, has become a topic of renewed speculation with the publication of an interview by New York magazine.

In her first interview since leaving the State Department, asked by the magazine whether she wrestles with the idea of a possible run, Clinton replied "I do, but I'm both pragmatic and realistic."

"I think I have a pretty good idea of the political and governmental challenges that are facing our leaders, and I'll do whatever I can from whatever position I find myself in to advocate for the values and the policies I think are right for the country," she said.

"I will just continue to weigh what the factors are that would influence me making a decision one way or the other," said Clinton, who started out as a leading contender for Democratic nomination in 2008 too, but narrowly lost out to then Senator Barack Obama.

But "I'm not in any hurry. I think it's a serious decision, not to be made lightly, but it's also not one that has to be made soon," she said. "This election is more than three years away, and I just don't think it's good for the country."

"It's like when you meet somebody at a party and they look over your shoulder to see who else is there, and you want to talk to them about something that's really important; in fact, maybe you came to the party to talk to that particular person, and they just want to know what's next. I feel like that's our political process right now. I just don't think it is good."

Some of Clinton's closest confidants insist she will run, even if she hasn't realized it yet, according to the magazine. Of Clinton's failed 2008 bid, her aide Melanne Verveer told the magazine, "She doesn't repeat her mistakes."

Clinton also told the magazine that after many years, she and her husband Bill Clinton were enjoying their "ordinary" life together.

"We get to be at home together a lot more now than we used to in the last few years. We have a great time; we laugh at our dogs; we watch stupid movies; we take long walks; we go for a swim. You know just ordinary, everyday pleasures," she was quoted as saying.

Suddenly, a Jerry Brown Presidential Run Looks Promising

Nov 5 2014 2:12am CST | Source: Big Government

Tuesday was the worst day in the recent history of the Democratic Party--worse, by far, than the 2010 elections or even the 1994 "revolution." It was bad because Democratic leaders insisted until the end that they would hold the Senate; worse because a sitting president was effectively neutralized for the remainder of his term; worst of all because every major race the Clintons involved themselves in went to the Republican candidate, regardless. The def ...

Rand Paul Taunts Hillary Clinton After GOP Victory

Nov 5 2014 12:32am CST | Source: Politics - The Huffington Post

Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) wasted no time using the GOP’s new majority in the Senate in the face of potential 2016 presidential rival Hillary Clinton. Paul posted an entire Facebook album of photos of Clinton campaigning with candidates who lost on Tuesday. Each photo was tagged #HillarysLosers. On Twitter, Paul continued to attack Clinton, saying that the GOP’s victory on election day was a repudiation of her and President Barack Obama. Today voters ...

In Bed At A Reasonable Hour: Mitch McConnell's Election Night Extravaganza

Nov 5 2014 12:24am CST | Source: Politics - The Huffington Post

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- When the crowd at Republican Sen. Mitch McConnell's election party first learned their candidate had won a sixth term to the U.S. Senate, the reaction was somewhat less than euphoric. A few yelps of excitement erupted here and there, but it seemed as if no one wanted to stand out by making a fuss. It took a few minutes, but the cheers eventually coalesced into something resembling a roar. It was a decidedly unde ...

Exclusive–Rand Paul: Tuesday's Biggest 'Loser' Is Hillary Clinton

Nov 5 2014 12:02am CST | Source: Big Government

Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) said late Tuesday that in the wake of the Senate going Republican, the biggest loser is former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. Almost every candidate Clinton campaigned for lost. Those include Georgia’s Michelle Nunn, Iowa’s Bruce Braley, North Carolina’s Kay Hagan, and Kentucky’s Alison Lundergan Grimes.  "Somebody should ask Hillary Democrats why they got wiped out tonight. Clearly, Hillary is yesterday ...

Rand: KY Senate Race Referendum on Hillary Clinton

Nov 4 2014 8:45pm CST | Source: Big Government

Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) argued that Sen. Mitch McConnell’s (R-KY) decisive victory over Alison Grimes was a referendum on Hillary Clinton as well on Tuesday.  “It was a referendum not only on the president but on Hillary Clinton. Mrs. Grimes ran as a Clinton democrat… she tried to attach herself to Hillary Clinton, but it turns Hillary Clinton doesn't have many coattails in Kentucky” he said. Paul predicted that when all is said and done, “we're goi ...

HUFFPOST HILL - You Can't Retake The Senate If Harry Reid *Burns It Down*

Nov 4 2014 4:20pm CST | Source: Politics - The Huffington Post

A small coalition of grandparents and people with nothing else to do after work altered the course of history today. If American Bridge is as influential as they say they are, "Guy Giving A Thumbs Down Behind Mitch McConnell" will be an emoji by tomorrow morning. And a freak early snowstorm could dampen turnout in conservative parts of Maine, but Paul LePage can still tell Al Gore jokes to keep warm. This is HUFFPOST HILL for Tuesday, November 4th, 2014:: O ...
