Netanyahu urges Obama to keep Iran sanctions in place

Sep 30 2013, 9:38pm CDT | by IANS

Washington, Oct 1 (IANS) Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has urged US President Barack Obama to keep economic sanctions on Iran in place to ease Israeli concerns about Washington's diplomatic engagement with Tehran over its disputed nuclear programme.

Washington, Oct 1 — Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has urged US President Barack Obama to keep economic sanctions on Iran in place to ease Israeli concerns about Washington's diplomatic engagement with Tehran over its disputed nuclear programme.

Netanyahu will deliver a speech Tuesday at the UN general assembly.

"If diplomacy is to work, those pressures must be kept in place, " reported Xinhua citing Netanyahu after a meeting with Obama at the White House.

"I think that they (the pressures on economy) should not be lessened until there is verifiable success," he said, adding that if the diplomatic solution failed, sanctions should be strengthened.

Netanyahu insisted that the bottom line was to ensure that "Iran fully dismantles its military nuclear programme".

Obama said both he and Netanyahu believe that it was the " extraordinary sanctions" put in place over the past several years that made the Iranians now prepared to negotiate.

"We have to test diplomacy. We have to see if, in fact, they are serious about their willingness to abide by international norms and international law and international requirements and resolutions," Obama said while reiterating that he will take no options off the table, including military options, in terms of making sure there's no nuclear weapons in Iran.

Obama and Netanyahu also discussed the issues over Syria, Palestine and Egypt.

On Syria, Obama said the two sides shared belief that they have to "move with speed and dispatch in actually making sure that the agreement that was arrived at in the United Nations is followed through."

The UN Security Council unanimously adopted a resolution Friday in a bid to rid the war-torn Syria of chemical weapons.

Sister: Iran Killed Nuclear Scientist for Refusing To Develop Nuke 12 Times Stronger than Hiroshima

Sep 30 2014 1:16pm CDT | Source: Big Government

Until now, a common understanding of the details surrounding Iranian Dr. Ardeshir Hosseinpour’s death was that he was reportedly assassinated in 2007, and presumably at the hands of Israel, which had hoped to slow-down Iran’s nuclear program through clandestine operations. Israel’s government policy neither to confirm nor deny instances such as these; coupled with Iran placing blame on Jerusalem for facilitating the alleged assassinations, seemingly shut the door on ...

Sep 17 2014 6:32pm CDT | Source: WND

“In a free democratic republic,” former CBS reporter Sharyl Attkisson tweeted a week ago, on Sept. 11, “what’s the justification for leaders keeping secret what the elected commander in chief [was doing] on the public’s behalf while Americans were under attack on foreign soil?” For his part, President Barack Obama claimed, “We revealed to the American people exactly what we understood at the time.” In my forthcoming book, “You ...
