Obama 'exasperated' by government shutdown

Oct 2 2013, 9:46pm CDT | by IANS

Washington, Oct 3 (IANs/EFE) US President Barack Obama said Wednesday that he is "exasperated" by the lack of agreement that led to the paralysis of the federal government and warned that Wall Street "should be concerned" about the economic consequences.

Washington, Oct 3 (IANs/EFE) US President Barack Obama said Wednesday that he is "exasperated" by the lack of agreement that led to the paralysis of the federal government and warned that Wall Street "should be concerned" about the economic consequences.

"And am I exasperated? Absolutely, I'm exasperated, because this is entirely unnecessary," said Obama in an interview with CNBC.

"I am exasperated with the idea that unless I say to 20 million people, 'You can't have health insurance,' these folks will not reopen the government. That is irresponsible," he said.

The only thing stopping Republican House Speaker John Boehner from holding a vote on legislation to end the impasse is that the GOP leader "has not been willing to say no to a faction of the Republican Party that are willing to burn the house down because of an obsession over my health care initiative," Obama said.

He emphasised that he is ready to negotiate and to talk about how the Affordable Care Act (ACA) can function better, but he is not going to do so under the "threat" of keeping the government closed down.

The US federal administration has been partially paralyzed since midnight Monday because of the lack of agreement in Congress over approving funds for the new fiscal year.

The more conservative wing of the Republicans is seeking to make that financing conditional on delaying the implementation of the ACA, Obama's signature domestic policy initiative.

When asked about the relative calm with which Wall Street has been reacting to the fiscal crisis, the president warned the business community against being complacent.

"This time I think Wall Street should be concerned," Obama said. "When you have a situation in which a faction is willing to default on US obligations, then we are in trouble."

The American people voted to make this woman Speaker of the House in 2012 CREDIT: AP The Supreme Court of the United States may be poised to give the Republican Party a big gift — more seats in Arizona’s delegation to the U.S. House of Representatives. In 2012, Democratic House candidates received nearly 1.4 million more votes than Republicans. Yet Republican John Boehner, and not Democrat Nancy Pelosi, is Speaker of the House due to the way congres ...

Cornyn: Republican Immigration Reform Would Be Piecemeal, Focus on Security First

Sep 30 2014 1:50pm CDT | Source: Big Government

A Republican-controlled Congress’s approach to immigration reform would put an emphasis on border security and move forward in a piecemeal fashion, Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) told the The Dallas Morning News editorial board in a filmed interview. “Is a Republican-controlled Congress going to pass a quick pathway to citizenship? No,” Cornyn said. “But would there be an opportunity to vote on — once border security was ...

Bernie Sanders: Saudi Arabia 'Laughing All the Way to the Bank' while US takes on ISIS

Sep 30 2014 9:55am CDT | Source: Big Government

On Tuesday’s “New Day” on CNN, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), a self-described socialist, criticized the United States’ so-called Arab allies in the Middle East for not being more proactive in the fight against ISIS in Iraq and Syria. Sanders said he opposed any action taken by the United States and insisted the United States would require help from those Mideast countries. “I believe that we need serious discussion in Congress,” San ...

Who says Obama's not transparent?

Sep 29 2014 6:25pm CDT | Source: WND

Random thoughts on the passing scene: What a non-judgmental society amounts to is that common decency is optional – which means that decency is likely to become less common. The biggest issue in this fall’s election is whether the Obama administration will end when Barack Obama leaves the White House or whether it will continue on, by appointing federal judges with lifetime appointments who share President Obama’s contempt for the Constitution. Whether such judges will be confirmed b ...

Jorge Ramos to CNN Media Reporter: Makes No Sense to Hide Liberal Biases

Sep 29 2014 1:53pm CDT | Source: Big Government

Jorge Ramos is not boring. And he doesn't hide his biases. CNN conceals its blatant liberal biases. And the network often mistakes its bi-ignorance for objectivity.   On Sunday's Reliable Sources on CNN, Ramos, the Univision and Fusion anchor whom Matt Drudge has praised for grilling politicians--especially those on the left--in a way the mainstream media refuses to do, suggested CNN and other mainstream media networks stop trying to fool the American public by hiding ...

Pray this clock doesn't stop!

Sep 29 2014 12:22pm CDT | Source: WND

Imagine a president who did the following: used the Internal Revenue Service as his own personal attack machine to target his political enemies; dropped bombs on foreign countries to deflect attention from his own personal scandals at home; demonized his political adversaries while playing the victim role; used executive orders to go over the heads of Congress and boasted about it. Sound familiar? I’m not talking about Barack Obama here. Bill Clinton did all of those things and more and ...

Obama: 'Contradictory' Syria Policy Helps Assad

Sep 28 2014 6:25pm CDT | Source: Politics - The Huffington Post

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama on Sunday gave voice to the conundrum at the heart of his Syria policy, acknowledging that the U.S.-led military campaign against the Islamic State group and al-Qaida's affiliate in Syria is helping Syrian dictator Bashar Assad, a man the United Nations has accused of war crimes. "I recognize the contradiction in a contradictory land and a contradictory circumstance, ...
