Obama 'exasperated' by government shutdown

Oct 2 2013, 9:46pm CDT | by IANS

Washington, Oct 3 (IANs/EFE) US President Barack Obama said Wednesday that he is "exasperated" by the lack of agreement that led to the paralysis of the federal government and warned that Wall Street "should be concerned" about the economic consequences.

Washington, Oct 3 (IANs/EFE) US President Barack Obama said Wednesday that he is "exasperated" by the lack of agreement that led to the paralysis of the federal government and warned that Wall Street "should be concerned" about the economic consequences.

"And am I exasperated? Absolutely, I'm exasperated, because this is entirely unnecessary," said Obama in an interview with CNBC.

"I am exasperated with the idea that unless I say to 20 million people, 'You can't have health insurance,' these folks will not reopen the government. That is irresponsible," he said.

The only thing stopping Republican House Speaker John Boehner from holding a vote on legislation to end the impasse is that the GOP leader "has not been willing to say no to a faction of the Republican Party that are willing to burn the house down because of an obsession over my health care initiative," Obama said.

He emphasised that he is ready to negotiate and to talk about how the Affordable Care Act (ACA) can function better, but he is not going to do so under the "threat" of keeping the government closed down.

The US federal administration has been partially paralyzed since midnight Monday because of the lack of agreement in Congress over approving funds for the new fiscal year.

The more conservative wing of the Republicans is seeking to make that financing conditional on delaying the implementation of the ACA, Obama's signature domestic policy initiative.

When asked about the relative calm with which Wall Street has been reacting to the fiscal crisis, the president warned the business community against being complacent.

"This time I think Wall Street should be concerned," Obama said. "When you have a situation in which a faction is willing to default on US obligations, then we are in trouble."

House GOP holding Dems' feet to fire on border

Aug 1 2014 4:40pm CDT | Source: WND

One of the most prominent amnesty opponents in the House Republican Conference says he supported the original border bill, backs the new one as well and believes the legislation will give the American people a clear choice between the parties on immigration policy heading into the November elections. Friday’s vote was scheduled after GOP leaders failed to muster enough votes to pass the original bill. Members were on their way home for summer recess when they were called back ...

President Obama's Executive Pen Powers the Right Challenge to GOP

Aug 1 2014 9:02am CDT | Source: Politics - The Huffington Post

President Obama did two crucial things in signing his latest executive order. The first was that it requires prospective federal contractors to disclose labor law violations and give federal agencies more guidance on how to consider labor violations when awarding federal contracts. This is a measure that's long past due given both the rampant nepotism, cronyism, game-playing and outright racial and gender discrimination by an untold number of businesse ...

While the President Parties, the Pundits Preen

Jul 31 2014 3:36pm CDT | Source: Big Government

In the past two weeks, President Obama was in both Texas and California, ignoring his constitutional duties in order to play pool, drink beer in a bar and visiting a deli pretending to be for the little guy before heading off to parties with wealthy socialites at political fundraisers.  Ignoring the crisis he created at our border, including dead children floating in the Rio Grande as he toasted with the super wealthy, Obama acts as if he answers to no one, except maybe Miche ...

Children's Home Fires Gay Employee For Presenting 'Damaging' Lifestyle

Jul 31 2014 3:04pm CDT | Source: Politics - The Huffington Post

Texas Tech University student and children’s social worker Casey Stegall was fired earlier this month by the Children’s Home of Lubbock after introducing his teenage clients to his fiancé during a water park outing on the Fourth of July. In justifying Stegall’s July 10 firing, Lynn Harms, president of the nonprofit Christian child care center for at-risk children, accused Stegall of “presenting a lifestyle that is damaging to kids” by displaying public affection toward an ...

Remember that time Democrats tried to impeach Bush? Because they sure don't

Jul 31 2014 10:56am CDT | Source: Big Government

While we enjoy the blizzard of fundraising letters Democrats are using to siphon cash out of their gullible supporters, and MSNBC's round-the-clock saturation coverage of the non-existent impeachment threat, let's pause for a little comic relief from the reliably amusing Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX), who thinks House Speaker John Boehner's lawsuit against Obama for executive over-reach is actually "a ...

Bill Kristol to House Republicans: Kill Boehner's Border Bill Or Face Wrath Of Your Constituents

Jul 31 2014 9:47am CDT | Source: Big Government

Weekly Standard editor Bill Kristol has advised House Republicans on Thursday morning that should vote against House Speaker John Boehner’s border crisis bill. “The House Republican leadership is having trouble getting 218 votes for its immigration bill,” Kristol wrote Thursday morning. ”The policy objections to the bill seem convincing to me—among them that it seems to appropriate more money, on a pro-rated monthly basis, than the president's proposal; that ...

House Rules Committee Considers King Amendment

Jul 30 2014 6:59pm CDT | Source: Big Government

WASHINGTON, D.C. — In order to obtain more conservative votes some provisions might be added to the House border bill, according to House Rules Committee Chairman Pete Sessions. “I think the issue is whether there will be provisions added to get their vote, not provisions added that would diminish the bill,” he told reporters Wednesday. Sessions said that a provision targeting President Obama’s Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals – which allows certain illegal immigrants to live an ...

Massachusetts Democratic Rep. Jim McGovern argued Wednesday that once unaccompanied illegal immigrant minors are turned over to their family members in the United States, they are no longer a burden on the United States.  “You talk about the costs of these children, if they are reunited with their families here in the United States, there is not a cost, so,” McGovern said at a House Rules Committe ...

Rush Limbaugh: Jeff Sessions 'Biggest Enemy' of MSM, Open-Borders Advocates

Jul 30 2014 2:50pm CDT | Source: Big Government

Conservative icon and talk radio host Rush Limbaugh said Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL) has emerged as the "biggest enemy" of the mainstream media and the open-borders and pro-amnesty activists on the illegal immigration issue.  "What Jeff Sessions is doing is what the Republican Party at large should be doing, Limbaugh said on his Wednesday radio show. "He went to the floor of the Senate, and he described the administration as lawless, said that they are engaging in lawless beha ...
