Bobby Jindal blames 'leaders across the board'

Oct 3 2013, 12:06am CDT | by IANS

Washington, Oct 3 (IANS) Louisiana's Indian American Republican Governor Bobby Jindal, a potential 2016 presidential contender, has blamed "leaders across the board" in general and President Barack Obama in particular for the government shutdown.

Washington, Oct 3 — Louisiana's Indian American Republican Governor Bobby Jindal, a potential 2016 presidential contender, has blamed "leaders across the board" in general and President Barack Obama in particular for the government shutdown.

"I think the American people look at what's happening in DC and see that leaders across the board are not doing what they were elected to do," said Jindal, who also serves as the chairman of the Republican Governors Association (RGA).

National politicians - and, chiefly, Obama - were "not solving the big challenges, the structural challenges, facing our country," he lamented, according to Politico, an influential Washington news site.

Jindal also attacked Obama for trying to play the role of "victim-in-chief," blaming others instead of solving problems.

"He likes to play the role of victim. That's not very presidential," he said. "This president apparently has time to golf. I wish he'd find time to work with Congress."

Gandhi said that he shares the congressional Republicans' firm opposition to the Affordable Care Act, and that only "structural changes" to the legislative branch of government will produce better results for voters.

The sweeping changes he suggested included: a balanced budget amendment to the US Constitution, term limits for members of Congress, a part-time legislature and requiring a legislative super majority to either raise taxes or increase spending at a faster rate than population growth.

"All of Washington, DC, is dysfunctional," he was quoted as saying. "It's not just a matter of who's in leadership or personalities or who's in power."

"As governors, we're no longer content to outsource the definition of our brand, or what it means to be a Republican, to Washington DC," he added.

RGA would be launching digital ads Thursday touting the work of Republican governors in pioneering "conservative solutions" in the states - a sharp difference from the current gridlock in DC.

The RGA digital campaign dubbed the "American Comeback Campaign," will eventually include video appearances by all of the country's 30 Republican governors, Jindal said.

The first video features South Carolina's Indian-American Governor Nikki Haley, Ohio governor John Kasich, Wisconsin governor Scott Walker, New Mexico Governor. Susana Martinez and Jindal himself.

Ted Cruz is much more entertaining than 'True Blood'

Ted Cruz Addresses Conservative Policy Summit
Breaking news: a fading television show lumbering through its final season makes a desperate bid for attention by creating a "controversy."  Such was the plan when the silly, but once-upon-a-time entertaining, HBO vampire show "True Blood" unleashed its writers' inner demons with some uncalled-for Republican-bashing, which went as far as one character using some straight-up War on Women rhetoric to ...

The Stupid Party? Which One?

Sen. Marco Rubio Speaks At The National Press Club
It seems to be a growing belief that the Republican Party has been hijacked by anti-science ideas and that somehow the Democratic Party is the party of scientific sanity, but the distinction may not be as clear cut as out might think. Or is it? Although few serious Democratic candidates take anti-science positions as major planks of their candidacy, it's fairly common for Republican candidates to do so. "We've got to stop bei ...

Why Aren't We Doing More to Keep Women Safe From Guns?

Jun 2 2014 3:19pm CDT | Source: Politics - The Huffington Post

Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal addresse
The tragic shooting in Santa Barbara last week sparked an important conversation: why aren't we doing more to keep women safe? For too long, women have been left out of the discussion about gun violence. We're 54 percent of the electorate, but only 19 percent of Congress. We account for only 24 percent of all state legislators nationwide. Clearly, the laws allowing our country's culture of gun violence are not being made by the mothers ...

By John Aman The right to try experimental, potentially life-saving drugs is coming soon to a state near you, giving fresh hope to terminally ill patients who have run out of treatment options. Louisiana became the nation’s second state to join the budding “right-to-try” revolution yesterday when Republican Gov. Bobby Jindal signed a bill allowing terminally ill patients to access medications that could save their lives, even if they are not approved by the FDA. “Every lif ...

Republican Governors Show Their True Colors Turning Down Billions in Medicaid Expansion

May 26 2014 11:50am CDT | Source: Politics - The Huffington Post

US Customs And Border Security Agents Patrol Texas-Mexico Border
In a 2012 decision, the Supreme Court ruled that states could decide to take the Medicaid expansion or not. In a purely political, but predictable move, Republican governor after Republican governor chose to say no to Medicaid expansion for their states even though their community hospitals are bursting at the seams. Why would any elected official turn down free health care dollars for its citizens? These 24 Republican governors would prefer to say n ...
