Bobby Jindal blames 'leaders across the board'

Oct 3 2013, 12:06am CDT | by IANS

Washington, Oct 3 (IANS) Louisiana's Indian American Republican Governor Bobby Jindal, a potential 2016 presidential contender, has blamed "leaders across the board" in general and President Barack Obama in particular for the government shutdown.

Washington, Oct 3 — Louisiana's Indian American Republican Governor Bobby Jindal, a potential 2016 presidential contender, has blamed "leaders across the board" in general and President Barack Obama in particular for the government shutdown.

"I think the American people look at what's happening in DC and see that leaders across the board are not doing what they were elected to do," said Jindal, who also serves as the chairman of the Republican Governors Association (RGA).

National politicians - and, chiefly, Obama - were "not solving the big challenges, the structural challenges, facing our country," he lamented, according to Politico, an influential Washington news site.

Jindal also attacked Obama for trying to play the role of "victim-in-chief," blaming others instead of solving problems.

"He likes to play the role of victim. That's not very presidential," he said. "This president apparently has time to golf. I wish he'd find time to work with Congress."

Gandhi said that he shares the congressional Republicans' firm opposition to the Affordable Care Act, and that only "structural changes" to the legislative branch of government will produce better results for voters.

The sweeping changes he suggested included: a balanced budget amendment to the US Constitution, term limits for members of Congress, a part-time legislature and requiring a legislative super majority to either raise taxes or increase spending at a faster rate than population growth.

"All of Washington, DC, is dysfunctional," he was quoted as saying. "It's not just a matter of who's in leadership or personalities or who's in power."

"As governors, we're no longer content to outsource the definition of our brand, or what it means to be a Republican, to Washington DC," he added.

RGA would be launching digital ads Thursday touting the work of Republican governors in pioneering "conservative solutions" in the states - a sharp difference from the current gridlock in DC.

The RGA digital campaign dubbed the "American Comeback Campaign," will eventually include video appearances by all of the country's 30 Republican governors, Jindal said.

The first video features South Carolina's Indian-American Governor Nikki Haley, Ohio governor John Kasich, Wisconsin governor Scott Walker, New Mexico Governor. Susana Martinez and Jindal himself.

Savage: Feds arming for 'war on white people'

Aug 29 2014 12:53pm CDT | Source: WND

Michael Savage Looking back on the nightly violence on the streets of Ferguson, Missouri, Dr. Savage made a trenchant observation. For years now, he reminded his listeners, the Department of Homeland Security has “been militarizing police forces, getting ready for an insurrection within America. Civil disobedience occurred in Missouri this week, but it was black civil disobedience, so there was no DHS presence. “It’s very important to understand this. This entire federal governm ...

Romney May Still Not Be the Republican Party Favorite

Aug 29 2014 11:06am CDT | Source: Politics - The Huffington Post

Headlines claimed that Americans want Romney back. But despite a recent poll touting his comeback, more evidence is needed to show that even Republicans want their losing nominee from 2012 back. Nearly a month ago, a poll showed that New Hampshire GOP voters gave Romney the nod in picking who they wanted to win in 2016. So what did Iowans think? Those who want Romney back crowed that a new USA Today/Suffolk poll of 206 Iowans found that 72 (35 percent) of them pre ...

Obama Administration Punishes Oklahoma for Repealing Common Core Standards

Aug 28 2014 8:32pm CDT | Source: Big Government

The U.S. Department of Education (USED) has punished the state of Oklahoma for repealing the Common Core standards and reverting to its previous academic standards by rescinding the state’s waiver from No Child Left Behind (NCLB), making it the second state ever to lose its waiver from the law. As Caitlin Emma of Politico reports, Indiana, on the contrary, was granted a one-year extension of its waiver from NCLB because, though Gov. Mike Pence (R) declared he was the first ...

From Bob Marshall, The Lens, Brian Jacobs and Al Shaw, ProPublica: In just 80 years, some 2,000 square miles of its coastal landscape have turned to open water, wiping places off maps, bringing the Gulf of Mexico to the back door of New Orleans and posing a lethal threat to an energy and shipping corridor vital to the nation’s economy. Here's your ticket out of Common Core

Aug 27 2014 6:59pm CDT | Source: WND

Common Core math problem The Common Core school standards imposed on teachers by Washington bureaucrats have been rejected by multiple states, targeted by lawsuits and criticized as more indoctrination than education. Now parents are being given a turn to take a whack at the one-size-fits-all program that relegates George Washington to a half a sentence and compares the Declaration of Independence to a high-school romance breakup letter. The Michigan-based Tho ...

Mike Huckabee: 'Stop The Fight' Over Common Core, Consider Its Benefits

Aug 22 2014 12:59pm CDT | Source: Politics - The Huffington Post

WASHINGTON (AP) — Conservatives should "stop the fight" over Common Core and instead consider the benefits that the academic standards offer students in struggling schools, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee said Friday. The position puts him at odds with a significant bloc of Republicans. Huckabee, who unsuccessfully sought the GOP presidential nomination in 2008 and is considering a 2016 run, acknowledged the standar ...

States Escaping No Child Left Behind Will Get More Time On Teacher Evaluations

Aug 21 2014 11:06am CDT | Source: Politics - The Huffington Post

For years, the Obama administration has made tougher teacher evaluations a centerpiece of its education agenda, giving states incentives to grade educators partially in accordance with students' standardized test scores. But on Thursday, U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan announced most states will get a reprieve of sorts. Deborah Delisle, assistant secretary of elementary and secondary education, wrote in a Thursday letter to state schoo ...
