Bobby Jindal blames 'leaders across the board'

Oct 3 2013, 12:06am CDT | by IANS

Washington, Oct 3 (IANS) Louisiana's Indian American Republican Governor Bobby Jindal, a potential 2016 presidential contender, has blamed "leaders across the board" in general and President Barack Obama in particular for the government shutdown.

Washington, Oct 3 — Louisiana's Indian American Republican Governor Bobby Jindal, a potential 2016 presidential contender, has blamed "leaders across the board" in general and President Barack Obama in particular for the government shutdown.

"I think the American people look at what's happening in DC and see that leaders across the board are not doing what they were elected to do," said Jindal, who also serves as the chairman of the Republican Governors Association (RGA).

National politicians - and, chiefly, Obama - were "not solving the big challenges, the structural challenges, facing our country," he lamented, according to Politico, an influential Washington news site.

Jindal also attacked Obama for trying to play the role of "victim-in-chief," blaming others instead of solving problems.

"He likes to play the role of victim. That's not very presidential," he said. "This president apparently has time to golf. I wish he'd find time to work with Congress."

Gandhi said that he shares the congressional Republicans' firm opposition to the Affordable Care Act, and that only "structural changes" to the legislative branch of government will produce better results for voters.

The sweeping changes he suggested included: a balanced budget amendment to the US Constitution, term limits for members of Congress, a part-time legislature and requiring a legislative super majority to either raise taxes or increase spending at a faster rate than population growth.

"All of Washington, DC, is dysfunctional," he was quoted as saying. "It's not just a matter of who's in leadership or personalities or who's in power."

"As governors, we're no longer content to outsource the definition of our brand, or what it means to be a Republican, to Washington DC," he added.

RGA would be launching digital ads Thursday touting the work of Republican governors in pioneering "conservative solutions" in the states - a sharp difference from the current gridlock in DC.

The RGA digital campaign dubbed the "American Comeback Campaign," will eventually include video appearances by all of the country's 30 Republican governors, Jindal said.

The first video features South Carolina's Indian-American Governor Nikki Haley, Ohio governor John Kasich, Wisconsin governor Scott Walker, New Mexico Governor. Susana Martinez and Jindal himself.

Politicians Are No Scientists On Climate Change, But They're Happy To Give Medical Opinions On Ebola

Oct 21 2014 1:47pm CDT | Source: Politics - The Huffington Post

"I'm not a scientist, but …" has become something of a cliché among politicians who want to weigh in on climate science without actually having to say whether they believe it. But when it comes to Ebola, a number of the same not-a-scientist politicians have been more than happy to provide their medical opinions, as Think Progress documented Monday. Many of these politicians have made false ...

Obama Fails to Protect Us, Again

Oct 7 2014 1:13pm CDT | Source: Big Government

Of all the examples of incompetence and failure to protect Americans that the Obama Administration has displayed, its failure to keep Ebola out of our country may be the worst. Obama’s number-one job is to keep dangerous people from coming into America, and he has flunked the test. Ebola is a particularly horrible disease. Infected patients face a death rate of 25 to 90 percent. Long ago, our country designated Ellis Island as a place where people could be held until ...

They're Blowing It Again

Oct 6 2014 1:43pm CDT | Source: Politics - The Huffington Post

A little known fact is that back in the early days of the New Deal, many liberals opposed what the Roosevelt administration was doing to deal with the Depression. It was not that they embraced greater capitalism; rather, they feared the expansion of the federal government. Their frame of reference was the dismal twenties, when the Feds had pursued repressive policies, and liberals dreaded their continuation. To these stalwarts, the epitome of federal activism could be summed up in one ...

Sexual Left Tells GOP Chair Reince Priebus to 'Shun' Social Conservatives

Sep 25 2014 7:27pm CDT | Source: Big Government

A small coalition of hard-left groups have called on GOP chairman Reince Priebus to "shun" several social conservative groups for their positions on homosexuality.  An expensive full-page ad appeared in Wednesday's Washington Post signed by the Southern Poverty Law Center, a group that raises $40+ million a year and has $250 million under management, and the $50 million-a-year Human Rights Campaign, along with People for the American Way, the NAACP, and the Lea ...

Louisiana 'Legislative Audit' of Common Core: Standards Drive Curriculum in Classrooms

Sep 23 2014 8:39am CDT | Source: Big Government

In an ironic twist, a report issued Monday by the nonpartisan Louisiana Legislative Auditor asserts that the Common Core standards are driving curriculum in the classroom, a statement that is in sharp contrast to the meme of supporters who have consistently argued that the Common Core is “just standards” and that curriculum can be decided at the local level. The audit, prepared by Daryl G. Purpera, CPA, CFE, and written from a decidedly pro-Common Core perspective, cites ...

Planned Parenthood's Very Bad Year Keeps Getting Worse

Sep 9 2014 1:37pm CDT | Source: Big Government

Poor Planned Parenthood. America's largest abortion provider is having a very bad year and thanks to a Republican proposal to make birth control available over the counter, it could be getting even worse. Despite the President himself siding with no safeguards on abortion to a degree that would surely have pleased Kermit Gosnell, many states have implemented laws making it tougher for abortionists to ply their trad ...
