Al Qaida kills 15 soldiers in Yemen

Sanaa, Oct 18 (IANS) An Al Qaida suicide car bomber stormed a military base in Yemen's southern province of Abyan Friday morning killing at least 15 soldiers and injuring dozens, a provincial security official told Xinhua.

Sanaa, Oct 18 — An Al Qaida suicide car bomber stormed a military base in Yemen's southern province of Abyan Friday morning killing at least 15 soldiers and injuring dozens, a provincial security official told Xinhua.

"The suicide car bombing attack was carried out simultaneously with heavy machine gunfire by the militants on the 111th Brigade's command centre in the district of Ahwar in Abyan province," the official told Xinhua over phone.

He said that the car bomb completely destroyed the building of the command centre where senior military officers work, killing at least 15 soldiers and injuring more than 18 others.

Following the suicide attack, the official said, the militants invaded the military base from different directions killing an unidentified number of soldiers and injuring others during the exchange of fire which went on for three hours.

The fresh suicide bombing occurred in the wake of a string of attacks on a security camp and a military checkpoint of the Brigade 26 Mika in Al Bayda province late Thursday, that claimed the lives of at least eight soldiers and injured dozens of others.

The attacks took place amid the week-long celebrations of Eid al-Adha that started Tuesday.

The Al Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) that is based in Yemen's southern region, repeatedly said that its attacks were in revenge for joint US-Yemeni operations including drone strikes against the group.

The drone strikes have increased since August after the US temporarily closed its embassy in Sanaa due to security threats. The Yemeni government said more than 40 suspected AQAP fighters were killed in the strikes.

Supreme Court Lets Terrorism Conviction Stand For Massachusetts Man

Oct 6 2014 9:00am CDT | Source: Politics - The Huffington Post

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Supreme Court has left in place the terrorism conviction of a Massachusetts man who argued that his online activities were free speech, not tangible support for al-Qaida. The justices did not comment Monday in rejecting an appeal from Tarek Mehanna that challenged his conviction and 17 1/2-year prison sentence. Mehanna, of Sudbury, was convicted of four terror-related charges and three charges of lying to authorities. Prosecutors said he traveled to ...

Terrorist Anwar al-Awlaki: Gov't informant

Oct 3 2014 4:14pm CDT | Source: WND

(PJMedia) — New evidence pried from the government under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) proves the point I have posited here at Ordered Liberty: The federal government willfully intervened on behalf of al Qaeda terrorist Anwar al-Awlaki on October 10, 2002, undoing his arrest on felony fraud charges when he was detained at JFK International Airport in New York, and allowing him to walk away with a Saudi handler. As I argued over two years ago, the government’s story to the contrary – ...
