Red carpet welcome for PM as he arrives in Moscow

Oct 20 2013, 8:46am CDT | by IANS

Moscow, Oct 20 (IANS) Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Sunday arrived on a two-day official visit to Russia to a red carpet ceremonial welcome.

Moscow, Oct 20 — Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Sunday arrived on a two-day official visit to Russia to a red carpet ceremonial welcome.

The prime minister's special aircraft touched down at Vnukovo International airport here amid a cloudy day with the temperature at 5 degrees Celsius, but bitterly cold.

He was received by Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov.

Both sides are set to ink six agreements, including one on the transfer of sentenced persons and on science and technology, during their annual summit Monday.

Earlier, before leaving on the visit, the prime minister had described the annual summit he would hold with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday as an "important feature of our special and privileged strategic partnership".

He said India's scope of ties with Russia is "unique, encompassing strong and growing cooperation in areas such as defence, nuclear energy, science and technology, hydrocarbons, trade and investment and people to people exchanges".

He said he would convey to President Putin "the importance we attach to our relations with Russia, and I will use this visit to strengthen our partnership in every possible way".

Despite the high expectations ahead of the visit, India and Russia are not to ink the commercial agreement on the third and fourth reactors for Kudankulam.

The two leaders are set to go over the main pillars of the bilateral strategic partnership, including defence, energy, space, science and technology, economy.

Manmohan Singh would be conferred an honorary doctorate by Moscow State Institute of International Relations, which he said is a "testimony of the relations between our two countries".

WASHINGTON -- Israel vs. Hamas. Ukraine vs. Russia. Unaccompanied minors at the Texas border. Syria in flames, with a militant “caliphate” at the door. Iran stalling for time on nukes. A rising China sowing fear throughout the rest of Asia. The world seems dangerously unmanageable these days. President Barack Obama is paying a political price at home, with 55 percent of Americans polled by Pew now disapproving of his handling of foreign affairs -- a dramatic reversal from 2009, when ...

When hundreds of millions of people are governed by certain laws that run contrary to logic and compassion, then everyone suffers from the irrational fears of an older generation of voters. Vice President Joe Biden, who in the past has stated that “jobs” is a three-letter word, “J-O-B-S,” and praised how President Franklin D. Roosevelt responded on television to the 1929 market crash (even though that happened before his term and television hadn’t been invented yet) now has authored another fairly extreme statement. Only this time the ripples could extend beyond the usual guffaws from those who know ...

John Kerry, Useful Idiot for Hamas

Jul 21 2014 7:57am CDT | Source: Big Government

Russian President Vladimir Putin Visits Samara
U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry is on his way to Cairo, as of this writing, to attempt to negotiate yet another ceasefire. His journey is a thoughtless, and no doubt narcissistic, waste of U.S. diplomatic capital, since after two unilateral Israeli ceasefires that Hamas blithely ignored, it is clear that military pressure on Hamas, not diplomatic pressure on Israel, is the only way to stop the violence. This is a war Hamas started, and still wants. Kerry was ca ...
