Moscow, Oct 20 (IANS) Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Sunday arrived on a two-day official visit to Russia to a red carpet ceremonial welcome.

Moscow, Oct 20 — Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Sunday arrived on a two-day official visit to Russia to a red carpet ceremonial welcome.

The prime minister's special aircraft touched down at Vnukovo International airport here amid a cloudy day with the temperature at 5 degrees Celsius, but bitterly cold.

He was received by Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov.

Both sides are set to ink six agreements, including one on the transfer of sentenced persons and on science and technology, during their annual summit Monday.

Earlier, before leaving on the visit, the prime minister had described the annual summit he would hold with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday as an "important feature of our special and privileged strategic partnership".

He said India's scope of ties with Russia is "unique, encompassing strong and growing cooperation in areas such as defence, nuclear energy, science and technology, hydrocarbons, trade and investment and people to people exchanges".

He said he would convey to President Putin "the importance we attach to our relations with Russia, and I will use this visit to strengthen our partnership in every possible way".

Despite the high expectations ahead of the visit, India and Russia are not to ink the commercial agreement on the third and fourth reactors for Kudankulam.

The two leaders are set to go over the main pillars of the bilateral strategic partnership, including defence, energy, space, science and technology, economy.

Manmohan Singh would be conferred an honorary doctorate by Moscow State Institute of International Relations, which he said is a "testimony of the relations between our two countries".

Sep 24 2014 6:30pm CDT | Source: WND

To: President Barack Obama From: Former President George W. Bush Topic: Iraq Message: “We’re ba-a-a-ack!” I’ve been quiet these last six years. But your belated decision to “destroy” ISIS prompted me to write. You repeatedly scorched my presidency, said that I so botched up things, so destroyed American foreign policy that all you had to do was not be George W. Bush. “Don’t do stupid stuff” was your West-Wing mantra. What a difference six y ...

Sep 24 2014 8:33am CDT | Source: Big Government

During a New York fundraiser, President Obama detailed his foreign policy solutions in the midst of the chaotic events facing the world, describing it as “American leadership at it’s best.” Obama admitted that although the United States was in far better economic shape than when he took office, there was still some “anxiety” in the United States about world events. “It’s not unprecedented,” he said, but cautioned that world affairs weren’t as b ...

Best ISIS strategy: Nuke 'em

Sep 19 2014 6:36pm CDT | Source: WND

With near unanimity among experts in warfare, President Barack Hussein Obama’s “strategy” to defeat ISIS is a sham that is designed to lose. While the “Muslim in Chief’s” motivation to fail can be attributed in part to his Islamic heritage, Obama’s professed method of combat is strangely reminiscent of President George W. Bush’s initial strategy after Sept. 11, 2001. In the weeks following the horrific terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, “ ...

More unlawful presidential killing

Sep 17 2014 6:29pm CDT | Source: WND

As the debate rages over whether the president needs congressional authorization for war prior to his deployment of the military to degrade or destroy ISIS, the terrorist organization that none of us had heard about until a few months ago, the nation has lost sight of the more fundamental issue of President Obama’s infidelity to the rule of law. On the lawfulness of his proposed war, the president has painted himself into a corner. Last year, he quite properly recognized that the Auth ...

The 'Good' Iraq War? 5 Things to Consider Before We March Into Another Mideast Quagmire

Sep 16 2014 7:09pm CDT | Source: Politics - The Huffington Post

ISIS is a bad bunch. A deliberately macabre and diabolical death cult. Their shock and horror strategy fuels fear in their subjects, and pride in their growing band of messianic losers, freaks and disaffected Ba'athists (thank you, Douglas Feith). However, in many ways, they are no different than other marauding bands of bad guys around the planet: from Uganda's (now possibly Congo's) Acholi-Christian-Islamic madman Joseph Kon ...

The Russian government has announced it will "protect" Russian speakers abroad, specifically mentioning the Russian-speaking population of the Baltics. What would Braveheart do?

Sep 15 2014 7:27pm CDT | Source: WND

No matter how the vote turns out on Thursday in Scotland, either for independence or continued union with Britain, the disintegration of the Old Continent appears almost inevitable. Already the British government has conceded that, even if the Scots vote for union, Edinburgh will receive greater powers to rule itself. Cheering for the breakup of the U.K. are Catalans and Basques, Bretons and Corsicans, Tyroleans, Venetians, Flemish, all dreaming of nations of their own ca ...

Saudis drop idea of toppling Syrian regime

Sep 14 2014 7:36pm CDT | Source: WND

Syria’s Bashar al-Assad WASHINGTON – The Saudis are telling Russia they no longer seek to topple the Syrian regime of Bashar al-Assad, but insist they should continue arming and training their surrogates in the Free Syrian Army as opposition to ISIS – even though FSA commanders have signed a non-aggression pact with ISIS. Foreign Minister Saud al-Faisal reportedly gave the news to Russian President Vladimir Putin, a staunch defender of the Assad regime. However, Middle East sourc ...
