China criticises Japan's provocative remarks

Oct 28 2013, 4:28pm CDT | by IANS

Beijing, Oct 29 (IANS) China Monday criticised Japan for repeatedly making provocative remarks, while accusing Tokoyo of breaking the status quo on the Diaoyu Islands, following Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's latest claims on islands.

Beijing, Oct 29 — China Monday criticised Japan for repeatedly making provocative remarks, while accusing Tokoyo of breaking the status quo on the Diaoyu Islands, following Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's latest claims on islands.

Abe told troops Sunday that Japan would not "tolerate the use of force to change the region's status quo" and called for surveillance and intelligence activities in this regard.

"Japanese leaders' provocative comments concerning China demonstrate these politicians' lying techniques and their unscrupulous and guilty conscience," reported Xinhua citing foreign ministry's spokeswoman Hua Chunying at a daily briefing Monday.

She reaffirmed China's Diaoyu islands stance, which states that they are an inherent part of Chinese territory though they were covertly included in Japanese territories by Japan in 1895 after the first Sino-Japanese War (1894-1895).

"China and Japan agreed to seek a resolution on the Islands issue in the future when diplomatic relations normalised in 1972. The important consensus is a major foundation for the growth of bilateral ties," Hua said.

She voiced China's opposition to Japan's illegal and invalid unilateral move on the Diaoyu Islands.

"It is no one else but Japan itself that is breaking the status quo on the Diaoyu Islands," the spokeswoman said.

She reiterated China's determination to follow a path for peaceful development and maintain a peaceful and stable neighbourhood.

The spokeswoman also said that the Chinese military planes' training over the East China Sea was in line with international laws and practices and there was no cause for concern regarding them.

How Modi's India Is Reshaping Asia

Sep 16 2014 10:56am CDT | Source: Politics - The Huffington Post

NEW DELHI -- During his spirited campaign for parliamentary elections held earlier this year, Narendra Modi, the right-wing Bharatiya Janata Party's prime ministerial candidate, hardly spoke about foreign policy issues. Other than a few sharp barbs he aimed at Pakistan, China and Bangladesh -- favorite targets of "nationalist Hindus" -- he kept his counsel to himself on this score. But after his triumphant victory in the elections -- it gave the B ...

By Nobuhiro Kubo TOKYO, Sept 10 (Reuters) - Japan and the United States are exploring the possibility of Tokyo acquiring offensive weapons that would allow Japan to project power far beyond its borders, Japanese officials said, a move that would likely infuriate China. While Japan's intensifying rivalry with China dominates the headlines, Tokyo's focus would be the ability to take out North Korean missile bases, said three Japane ...
