China criticises Japan's provocative remarks

Oct 28 2013, 4:28pm CDT | by IANS

Beijing, Oct 29 (IANS) China Monday criticised Japan for repeatedly making provocative remarks, while accusing Tokoyo of breaking the status quo on the Diaoyu Islands, following Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's latest claims on islands.

Beijing, Oct 29 — China Monday criticised Japan for repeatedly making provocative remarks, while accusing Tokoyo of breaking the status quo on the Diaoyu Islands, following Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's latest claims on islands.

Abe told troops Sunday that Japan would not "tolerate the use of force to change the region's status quo" and called for surveillance and intelligence activities in this regard.

"Japanese leaders' provocative comments concerning China demonstrate these politicians' lying techniques and their unscrupulous and guilty conscience," reported Xinhua citing foreign ministry's spokeswoman Hua Chunying at a daily briefing Monday.

She reaffirmed China's Diaoyu islands stance, which states that they are an inherent part of Chinese territory though they were covertly included in Japanese territories by Japan in 1895 after the first Sino-Japanese War (1894-1895).

"China and Japan agreed to seek a resolution on the Islands issue in the future when diplomatic relations normalised in 1972. The important consensus is a major foundation for the growth of bilateral ties," Hua said.

She voiced China's opposition to Japan's illegal and invalid unilateral move on the Diaoyu Islands.

"It is no one else but Japan itself that is breaking the status quo on the Diaoyu Islands," the spokeswoman said.

She reiterated China's determination to follow a path for peaceful development and maintain a peaceful and stable neighbourhood.

The spokeswoman also said that the Chinese military planes' training over the East China Sea was in line with international laws and practices and there was no cause for concern regarding them.

Obama's Troublesome Distractions Won't Wreck His Asia-Pacific Pivot (But Not Because of Him)

Oct 21 2014 12:15pm CDT | Source: Politics - The Huffington Post

These are not good times for President Barack Obama, and they're apt to get worse before they get better. But one good thing for the president is that his Asia-Pacific Pivot -- heightened engagement with the rising region, and nascent superpower China -- hasn't been wrecked by the lengthening array of Obama administration distractions, including his troubled and tardy war against Isis. That the Obama adminis ...

Can Beijing survive Hong Kong uprising?

Oct 2 2014 6:33pm CDT | Source: WND

Americans are caught up with the Ebola crisis and the Secret Service lapses in protecting the White House and the president’s family. But what is transpiring in Hong Kong may be of far greater consequence. Last weekend, Hong Kong authorities used pepper spray and tear gas to scatter the remnants of a student protest of the decision to give Beijing veto power over candidates in future elections. The gassing was a blunder. Citizens poured into the streets in solidarity with the proteste ...
