Indian-American business group endorses New Jersey governor

Nov 1 2013, 12:06am CDT | by IANS

New Jersey, Nov 1 (IANS) The Indian Business Association of New jersey, home to a large Indian-American community, has endorsed Republican Governor Chris Christie, who is running for re-election to a second and final term in office.

New Jersey, Nov 1 — The Indian Business Association of New jersey, home to a large Indian-American community, has endorsed Republican Governor Chris Christie, who is running for re-election to a second and final term in office.

Christie, who will face Democratic nominee Barbara Buono and six others in the Nov 5 election, won IBA's endorsement during a stop on his statewide campaign tour Thursday "in the heart of New Jersey's burgeoning Indian-American community," according to NJ.com.

IBA which represents "the countless Indian shops and restaurants that populate the Middlesex County's sprawling Woodbridge and Edison corridor", had also endorsed Christie when he was elected in 2009, the website reported.

The group's chairman Chandrakant Patel called the governor a friend of New Jersey's nearly 292,000 Indian-American residents. "He always listens to us," he said. "He tries to solve our problems."

Christie, wife Mary Pat and son Andrew - a student at Princeton - greeted dozens of Indian-American supporters at Chowpatty, one of the many Indian restaurants on the stretch of Oak Tree that runs through the Iselin section of Woodbridge, NJ.com said.

The largest swath of New Jersey's Indian-American community lives in the area: Of the 200,000 people who reside in Edison and Woodbridge, 50,000 are Indian-American, according to 2010 census numbers, the website said.

Christie's visit came a day after his Democratic challenger Buono appeared in Edison to introduce the first-ever South Asian-American caucus to the state Democratic Party, designed to give voice to the New Jersey's Indian-Americans.

Democratic state assemblyman Upendra Chivukula, according to NJ.com, called the caucus "a historic milestone in the political evolution of the South-Asian community and a victory for the state's Democratic Party."

Polls show Christie leading Buono by more than 20 percentage points.

Lots of Luck

Jul 24 2014 9:41am CDT | Source: Politics - The Huffington Post

Until the 1990s, New Jersey enjoyed decades at the top of the heap financially, with a bipartisan commitment to fiscal stability. It boasted a triple A bond rating and no short-term debt. Budgets were routinely balanced with full payment of required contributions to the public employee retirement funds. Now, for a host of reasons the state's fiscal condition is among the worst in the nation, refle ...

Chris Christie: 'I'm in My Kind Stage Now'

Jul 18 2014 9:48am CDT | Source: Big Government

While Gov. Chris Christie attended a Iowa restaurant on Thursday, one woman had a question for him. "Why can't you be tough right now?" she asked, according to WNYC’s Matt Katz. "I'm in my kind stage right now,” he explained. “I’ll be tough when I have to be." That explains why Christie, who gained widespread popularity among Republicans for his tough, no nonsense style when dealing with the left, has softene ...

Happy birthday, Central American humanitarian crisis

Jul 16 2014 6:58pm CDT | Source: WND

It’s been fun to watch the media discuss the border crisis in real time, improvising their arguments on the fly. Let’s try A, and if that doesn’t work, we’ll try B. First, they said there was no surge at the border – it was a phony crisis manufactured by the Drudge Report. The facts on the ground quickly made that argument inoperable. Next, liberals told us these “undocumented migrants” (the PC phrase for “ill ...
