Pakistan Taliban gets a new chief

Nov 2 2013, 8:12am CDT | by IANS

Islamabad, Nov 2 (IANS) Pakistani Taliban has appointed Khan Said Sajna alias Khalid, who was involved in an attack on a naval base and a jailbreak in which 400 prisoners fled, as its new chief after a US drone attack killed its leader Hakimullah Mehsud Friday, media reports said Saturday.

Islamabad, Nov 2 — Pakistani Taliban has appointed Khan Said Sajna alias Khalid, who was involved in an attack on a naval base and a jailbreak in which 400 prisoners fled, as its new chief after a US drone attack killed its leader Hakimullah Mehsud Friday, media reports said Saturday.

The consultative body of Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) Saturday appointed Khan Said the new chief of the outfit at a meeting at an undisclosed place in North Waziristan, Xinhua quoted reports in Pakistani media as saying.

Khan Said, 36, who was the close aide of former chief Hakimullah, got 43 out of 60 votes of the consultative body, the reports said.

Khan Said had been leading the Taliban chapter of South Waziristan since May this year after a US drone strike killed an important leader named Wali-ur-Rehman.

He was reportedly involved in some of the big terrorist attacks in Pakistan, including the attack on a naval base in Karachi and the 2012 jailbreak in which the Taliban freed around 400 inmates in Bannu district.

According to reports, Khan Said has no basic education, conventional or religious, but is considered a battle-hardened and experienced guerrilla battle commander.

Meanwhile, TTP spokesman did not confirm reports that the TTP council has appointed Khan Said as its new chief and insisted that meeting is still in progress somewhere in North Waziristan.

"We will formally make announcement of the new chief in a couple of days," Azam Tariq, spokesman for the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) Tariq told journalists via phone from an undisclosed location.

The militant outfit also confirmed the death of their chief Hakimullah Mehsud in the US drone attack.

London Imam Anjem Choudary declared that Sharia Law is “in all respects, [is] much better than the system we have today in American and in Britain” in an interview on Monday’s “Hannity” on the Fox News Channel. Choudary also denied that Christians and Jews persecuted by ISIS, stating “I don't take my news from Fox News or the BBC. If you look at the people on the ground, I think you'll find that they have a completely different story. The Christians and Jews are living q ...

How Climate Change Helped ISIS

Sep 29 2014 4:42pm CDT | Source: Politics - The Huffington Post

As the Obama administration undertakes a highly public, multilateral campaign to degrade and destroy the militant jihadists known as ISIS, ISIL and the Islamic State, many in the West remain unaware that climate played a significant role in the rise of Syria's extremists. A historic drought afflicted the country from 2006 through 2010, setting off a dire humanitarian crisis for millions of Syrians. Yet the four-year drought evoked little response from Bashar al-Assad's governme ...

Atlantic Reporter Compares Palin to Burqa-Wearing Taliban Supporter

Sep 19 2014 1:19pm CDT | Source: Big Government

Unfortunately I don't possess the intellectual nuance required to grasp why an elite leftwing journalist  would think it was okay to compare a female governor and mother of five to a burqa-wearing Taliban supporter brandishing a pistol. Apparently, Jeffrey Goldberg's intellectual superiority is so superior only dogs can hear it: -- -- Goldberg deleted the tweet.  He didn't apologize. Because that would be an admission that comparing a conservative woman to a terrorist suppo ...

Obama's ISIS Speech Can Only Harm U.S. Interests

Sep 10 2014 8:38am CDT | Source: Big Government

As President Barack Obama prepares to address the nation Wednesday evening about his strategy for defeating ISIS--a strategy he recently said did not exist--it is worth noting that the president's foreign policy speeches are rarely helpful, and often harmful, to U.S. interests and foreign policy goals. Focused on politics rather than on policy, Obama is more articulate about the limits of U.S. power than the goals for which he intend ...

Humourless Twitter Leftists Side with the Taliban to Criticise UKIP

Aug 26 2014 8:53am CDT | Source: Big Government

I thought I’d seen it all when ‘anti-fascist’ rent-a-mob types screamed words such as ‘racist’ and ‘coconut’ at UKIP’s Black, Asian, Muslim and Jewish supporters at a big rally in London back in May. Now, my astonishment at the lunacy and double-standards of the vociferous far-left has ratcheted up another notch. I’ve just finished writing a chapter on women’s rights in a new publication called Beyond Multi ...
