Pakistan Taliban gets a new chief

Nov 2 2013, 8:12am CDT | by IANS

Islamabad, Nov 2 (IANS) Pakistani Taliban has appointed Khan Said Sajna alias Khalid, who was involved in an attack on a naval base and a jailbreak in which 400 prisoners fled, as its new chief after a US drone attack killed its leader Hakimullah Mehsud Friday, media reports said Saturday.

Islamabad, Nov 2 — Pakistani Taliban has appointed Khan Said Sajna alias Khalid, who was involved in an attack on a naval base and a jailbreak in which 400 prisoners fled, as its new chief after a US drone attack killed its leader Hakimullah Mehsud Friday, media reports said Saturday.

The consultative body of Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) Saturday appointed Khan Said the new chief of the outfit at a meeting at an undisclosed place in North Waziristan, Xinhua quoted reports in Pakistani media as saying.

Khan Said, 36, who was the close aide of former chief Hakimullah, got 43 out of 60 votes of the consultative body, the reports said.

Khan Said had been leading the Taliban chapter of South Waziristan since May this year after a US drone strike killed an important leader named Wali-ur-Rehman.

He was reportedly involved in some of the big terrorist attacks in Pakistan, including the attack on a naval base in Karachi and the 2012 jailbreak in which the Taliban freed around 400 inmates in Bannu district.

According to reports, Khan Said has no basic education, conventional or religious, but is considered a battle-hardened and experienced guerrilla battle commander.

Meanwhile, TTP spokesman did not confirm reports that the TTP council has appointed Khan Said as its new chief and insisted that meeting is still in progress somewhere in North Waziristan.

"We will formally make announcement of the new chief in a couple of days," Azam Tariq, spokesman for the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) Tariq told journalists via phone from an undisclosed location.

The militant outfit also confirmed the death of their chief Hakimullah Mehsud in the US drone attack.

Palestine Occupied by Islamism as Much as Israel

Jul 18 2014 1:31pm CDT | Source: Big Government

While Gazans, their Hamas leadership and pro-Palestinian supporters around the world condemn Israel's Operation Protective Edge, now turning into a ground invasion, its time Muslims examined the Other Occupation: the inexorable advance of political Islamism over Islam. Increasingly, Islam has been usurped by political Islamism, manifest in the current Israel–Palestine conflict as a war between Hamas and the Israel. Elsewhere, Islamis ...

The Lombard Trophy - North West Regional Qualifier
If ever you doubted that putting the European Union in charge of environmental issues is a bit like inviting the Taliban to run Miss World, consider this story by Richard North about the characteristic blend of bullying, incompetence, corruption, greed, high-handedness, dishonesty and ineffectuality with which the EU is policing the fishing grounds of West Africa. You'd think after the mess the EU had made in the waters of the North Sea and the Medi ...

Book Party for Man Made by TIME's Joel Stein
Don't tell rapper/actor Ice Cube about the Taliban prisoner swap debacle, the missing IRS emails, the fact that Iraq is about to fall to jihadists or that the U.S. economy remains stuck in neutral. Or, frankly, other proof that President Barack Obama's tenure has been anything but what was promised by his supporters and a supine media back in 2008 The 22 Jump Street star still has Obama's back. Muslims Gather To Condemn Extremism In The UK At Baitul Futuh Mosque
For years, Pakistan has consistently renewed its international image as a country of grave concern, with not only its inability to halt the progress of terrorist and militant groups within the country but also its inability to provide basic needs of its own population. Far from offering any assurance that it can control the growing militancy of terror groups like the Pakistani Taliban, the government of Pakistan is not even able to exhi ...

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- House Speaker John Boehner said he's not sure whether immigration had anything to do with Majority Leader Eric Cantor's historic primary loss, despite the fact that David Brat, the economics professor who bested Cantor, spent the final weeks of the campaign talking about almost nothing but that issue. “We don't know that [immigration reform] is the issue or was the issue in the election,” Boehner s ...
