Boulder, CO, November 10, 2013 --(PR.com)-- Today Deron Dempsey announced his intent to run for coroner in the 2014 election in Boulder County, Colo. Dempsey is a registered Democrat and will seek the party’s nomination for the general election on Tuesday, November 4, 2014.

Dempsey brings an empathetic approach to working with families who have lost a loved one. He believes the Office of the Coroner must have a well-trained staff of investigators who perform the public service with compassion and care.

Dempsey maintains that accurately documenting the details of a death, as well as determining the appropriate legal response to the particular circumstances of the death, are foundational to quality coroner work.

Another top priority for Dempsey will be careful review of the coroner budget and effective management of taxpayer dollars.

“The Office of the Coroner provides such an important public service. I hope to offer the residents of Boulder County peace of mind knowing that accurate death certificates will be issued in a timely manner, that I will carefully manage taxpayer dollars, and that every family can expect compassion following the death of a loved one,” said Dempsey.

Dempsey considers collaboration a cornerstone of effective management in this public service role. He looks forward to communicating and collaborating closely with law enforcement agencies, the Boulder County District Attorney Office, county hospitals, private physicians, nursing homes and hospice organizations, and funeral directors.

“My administration will only be successful if we build strong partnerships across these interfacing agencies and organizations. Also, it is my intention to employ or contract a board-certified forensic pathologist who will conduct autopsies and serve as the Office’s medical director,” said Dempsey.

Dempsey has more than nine years of experience in the field of medicolegal death investigation. He is currently employed as a coroner investigator with the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office, which he joined in May of 2011. He was previously employed from October of 2004 to May of 2011 as a medical investigator for the Office of the Boulder County Coroner.

Prior to entering the field of medicolegal death investigation, Dempsey was a counselor at the residential youth shelter Attention Homes in Boulder. He was also an Emergency Medical Technician-Basic (EMT-B), a volunteer firefighter for Boulder Rural Fire Department and a Fairview High School wrestling coach.
