US not 'stupid' in pursuing deal with Iran: Kerry

Nov 10 2013, 8:10pm CST | by IANS

Washington, Nov 11 (IANS) The US is not "blind" or "stupid" in pursuing a deal over the controversial nuclear programme in the Islamic republic, US Secretary of State John Kerry said Sunday.

Washington, Nov 11 — The US is not "blind" or "stupid" in pursuing a deal over the controversial nuclear programme in the Islamic republic, US Secretary of State John Kerry said Sunday.

The statement came as world powers were engaged in "serious" talks with Iran over its nuclear programme, Xinhua reported.

Kerry made the remarks after three-day intensive talks in Geneva between Iran and Britain, China, France, Russia and the US plus Germany, the so-called P5+1, narrowed their differences but failed to produce an interim deal amid hyped expectations.

The two sides agreed to meet again Nov 20 at the conclusion of their talks Saturday.

"This is the first time that the P5(1) had come together with this kind of a serious set of possible options in front of it, with a new Iranian government," Kerry told NBC's "Meet the Press" programme in Geneva.

"This is a new overture, and it has to be put to the test very, very carefully," he said.

"Some of the most serious and capable, expert people in our government, who have spent a lifetime dealing both with Iran as well as with nuclear weapons and nuclear armament and proliferation, are engaged in our negotiation," he added. "We are not blind, and I don't think we're stupid."

Israel and some hawkish US lawmakers have inveighed against the proposed deal with Iran, in particular the potential relaxation of some sanctions against Tehran.

On the proposed accord with Iran, Kerry said "It is a first step in an effort that will lock the programme in where it is today in fact, set it back while one negotiates the full deal."

"And there will not be a relaxation of the pressure," he added. "Nobody has talked about getting rid of the current architecture of sanctions. The pressure will remain."

Confessions of an 'Uncritical' Israel 'Booster'

Jul 30 2014 8:18am CDT | Source: Politics - The Huffington Post

Joseph Palermo's recent posting on the Gaza conflict called me "an uncritical booster of Israel." The redundancy is stylistically awkward - whoever heard of a critical booster? Palermo's rhetorical overkill is an obvious attempt to impeach my integrity and all other Israel supporters by association. Ultimately, the caricature says more about him and his rambling attack on Israel, than about me. Calling me "an uncritical booster" suggests I am more propagandist th ...

Jul 29 2014 7:28pm CDT | Source: WND

Chicom atrocity: Falun Gong and organ harvesting

Jul 29 2014 6:45pm CDT | Source: WND

Each year I am invited, along with many members of Congress, to speak at a gathering on the lawn of the U.S. Capitol facing the Mall and the Washington Monument. The organizers of the rally are from the Falun Gong and are attempting to call attention to the brutal treatment of members of their group by the Chinese Communist Party, which sees them as a threat. The Falun Gong are not related to any known world faith, and most Christian leaders would refer to them as a cult becaus ...

Is the Obama-Netanyahu Transcript Fake?

Jul 29 2014 6:07pm CDT | Source: Big Government

Both President Barack Obama and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu say that a purported transcript of their telephone call on Sunday, which was leaked to Israel's Channel 1 and reported on television, is a fake. But is it really?  Statements by both sides, quoted by Politico on Tuesday, said that the transcript does not have "any resemblance to reality." The problem, however, is that it strongly resembles the White House's readout of the ca ...

Hannity: John Kerry a 'Dumbass,' 'Dope,' 'Idiot'

Jul 29 2014 3:20pm CDT | Source: Big Government

On his Tuesday radio show, Sean Hannity went off on a rant against Secretary of State John Kerry, whose settlement offer was unanimously rejected by the Israeli, which was an unprecedented show of disapproval by that cabinet. Hannity accused the Obama administration’s head diplomat of lacking the moral clarity to understand the gravity of the threat Hamas has posed to Israel’s security. “It’s so bad, th ...

Netanyahu's Popularity Soars to 82%

Jul 29 2014 2:49pm CDT | Source: Big Government

There has not been a majority party in Israel for decades. Israelis are as politically divided as Americans in many ways. There is no national consensus on anything. But the Israeli people have unified behind Prime Minister Netanyahu. A recent poll shows he is twice as popular in Israel as Barack Obama is in America. The Jerusalem Post's Herb Keinon reports that a whopping 82% of Israelis "are satisfied with Netanyahu's perfor ...
