The 2016 Presidential election has officially began at midnight last night. Texas senator Ted Cruz is the first to announce his candidacy for the 2016 presidential election. He chose Twitter to make the announcement with a 30 second video that calls for a time of truth and rise to the challenge. He says in the video that it requires a new generation of conservatives to make America great again.

He wants to stand beside that people. I assume he rather means at the lead as he wants to be the next President of America. Obviously Ted Cruz will have some competition from within his own party. It is expected that Marco Rubio, Rand Paul, Scott Walker and last but not least Jeb Bush.
The Tweet announcing the Ted Cruz candidacy did not go crazy viral yet. In the first hours the Tweet garnered 5,500 retweets and 4,400 favorites.
Senator Ted Cruz will make a full announcement of his candidacy today at 10am. The announcement will be made at the Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia.
Ted Cruz has an interesting background. He was born in 1970 in Calgary, Canada. He is the son of an American mother and a Cuban-born father. Cruz gave up his Canadian citizenship just a year ago. Senator Ted Cruz would be the first hispanic President of the United States.
The election of the US President will take place on November 8, 2016.
